Backache

Backache is also known as lumbago is defined as placid to rigorous pain or distress in the area of the lower back. The pain can be severe (sudden) or constant if it has lasted more than three months. It generally roots in younger people whose work involves physical exertion and in people of older age. It is one of the most common ailments of mankind. It can also be defined as a degenerative disorder in which the vertebral bone or the inter-vertebral disc becomes soft and loses shape. As a result, the spinal column loses its suppleness causing acute pain in the back. Women are very susceptible to back pain during pregnancy. This is because during pregnancy there is stretching of the ligaments around the uterus and pressure on the lower back. It is one of the most common ailment results in constant pain, at times unbearable and severe. It might lead to difficulty in bending forward and also on sideways. It feels as if entire area is sore and sensitive to even slight touch.

Home Remedies for Backache:

  • The most important home remedy for backache is the use of garlic. Two or three cloves should be taken every morning to get results. Oil prepared from garlic and rubbed on the back will give great relief.
  • Lemon is another useful remedy for backache. The juice of one lemon should be mixed with common salt and taken by the patient twice daily. It relieves.
  • The use of chebulic myroblan is beneficial in the treatment of backache.
  • Raw potato is an ancient home remedy for backache, characterised by incapacitating pain in the lumbar region, especially in the lower part of the back.
  • In the morning drink glucose or honey in warm water.
  • The people doing sedentary occupations should get up once or stand from there seats after every hour.
  • Do not bend your back or shoulders while picking up something from the ground. Bend your knee and then pick it up.
  • Rub the painful area of the back with Arthcare oil. This is very effective for relieving the pain.
  • Yogic asanas that are beneficial in the backache treatment are bhujangasana, shalabhasana, halasana, uttarpadasana, and shavasana.
  • Excess weight also increases the stress on the soft tissues of back so precautions should be taken to control the weight.
  • Heat may be applied with hot water bottle or infrared lamp for temporary backache pain relief in the area.
