Back pain is simply a pain in the back. It is a very common problem these days. It occurs in both men and women. It may be characterized by dull ache, piercing pain or burning sensation. Lower back is the most common area of pain. It may affect people of any age but it is more common among adults between age group 35 to 55 years. Back Pain Causes

Types of Back Pain

In most of the cases back pain resolves itself without any help but it should not last more than a couple of days.

1. Acute Back Pain

It is a back pain that comes on suddenly and remains for a maximum of three months.

2. Chronic Back Pain

In chronic back pain, the pain gradually develops for a longer period that can last for over three months. It causes long term problems.

Back Pain Diagnoses

If the pain persists for too long, various tests such as X- rays, MRI or CT scans, bone scan and electromyography or EMG can be used to diagnose back pain. If infection is suspected, then doctor may refer blood test also.
