Vaginal Problems Herbal Treatment
1. Bacterial vaginosis
It is also known as vaginal bacteriosis which is a mild infection of vagina caused by imbalance of naturally occurring bacterial flora found in woman's vagina. Vagina has some good bacteria and some bad bacteria. The good bacteria i.e. lactobacillus bacteria helps in maintaining the low vaginal pH and prevents the growth of bad bacteria. In bacterial vaginosis, bad bacteria outnumbers good bacteria and hence causes bacterial vaginosis.
Although the cause for vaginal bacterial imbalance is unknown but it is generally associated with overall health, diet and lifestyle factors along with smoking habits, douching, using vaginal deodorants and IUD devices. Another cause for bacterial vaginosis are sexually transmitted infections and unhygienic conditions.
Usually bacterial vaginosis is asymptomatic but some of its symptoms are a thin, watery, grey vaginal discharge having fishy smell, burning sensation while urinating and itching around vagina.
2. Yeast infection
It is also known as vaginal candidiasis which is caused by candida albicans, a type of fungus. It is the most common type of infection seen in the women. Usually yeast infection occurs when the body's immune system becomes weak. Normally, vagina has many bacteria including Lactobacillus acidophilus which keeps the other organisms like yeast under control. Any imbalance of these good bacteria leads to the uncontrolled growth of yeast. The excess of yeast in the body creates the havoc. Yeast infection causes itching and severe pain but it is very easy to get rid of.
The major cause of yeast infection is the excessive use of antibiotics medicines, weak immune system, hormonal imbalance such as high levels of estrogen, high sugar intake, using corticosteroids and obesity. Certain health conditions like HIV infection and diabetes can also cause yeast infection.
The symptoms involves itching and burning sensation around vagina, soreness of vagina, vaginal irritation, pain during urinating, smelly discharge. Do not use too much antibiotics and steroids as long as they are not needed. Personal hygiene is very important as yeast is most likely to flourish around the vaginal area.
3. White discharge
In clinical terms white discharge is known as leucorrhoea which is a very common problem among the women during reproductive years. Leucorrhoea is associated with a sticky, thick and white or yellowish vaginal discharge which varies according to woman's menstrual cycle and hormonal changes. Leucorrhoea may or may not indicate the presence of infection as in the most of the cases it is not a serious condition and is considered normal as long as there is no irritation, odour, itching, burning sensation and discomfort.
The primary cause of leucorrhoea is hormonal imbalance specially increased level of oestrogen. Other causes are sexually transmitted diseases, fungal or bacterial vaginal infection, poor hygienic measures, injury to vagina, urinary tract infections, wrong dietary habits and some ailments such as anaemia and diabetes.
