What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a chronic skin disease and a person generally has patches of raised red skin, lined with thick silvery scales. The affected skin may have pustules and it depends on the type of psoriasis. Psoriasis is an immune disorder and it manifests in the skin as well as the joints. Skin cells builds up to form raised 'plaques' on the skin which are scaly, red and itchy. Psoriasis may occur on any part of the body such as the scalp, hands, feet and genitals. It is usually found on the elbows, knees and may affect the legs and trunk. The most common type of psoriasis is the plaque psoriasis. Herbal remedies work very well in the treatment of psoriasis.
Physicians describe psoriasis not an infection and also it is not contagious. Touching the affected skin of the patient will not transmit psoriasis. The immune system plays a key role in the spread of psoriasis. A certain subset of T- lymphocytes (white blood cells) may trigger inflammation in the skin and other parts of the body. These T cells produce certain chemicals that cause skin cells to multiply more quickly. This results ultimately in an elevated scaling plaque of psoriasis. The cause of psoriasis is not known. It can be inherited and people may carry genes that may lead to psoriasis. Majority of people with psoriasis have been observed to have at least one family member with this disease. Certain environmental factors such as sun exposure, smoking and alcoholism may affect the occurrence of psoriasis. Skin injury is most susceptible to psoriasis. Psoriasis flare-ups mostly last for few weeks. It may return after disappearing for some time.
Circular or oval-shaped red plaques that itch are the typical type of psoriasis. Psoriasis with fissures normally occurs in the joints. In some cases, the skin may bleed and thus more susceptible to infection. It has been estimated that about 1%-2% of the global population is suffering from plaque psoriasis. Also, about 10% of people with plaque psoriasis have psoriatic arthritis. Patients with psoriatic arthritis have the most common symptoms as acute inflammation in their joints. This could result in permanent joint damage if proper treatment is not given. Most patients with psoriasis are also predisposed to obesity, diabetes and other diseases.
Psoriasis is a complicated condition and it varies from individual to individual. Each person has different ways to cope up with psoriasis. The degree of skin affected by psoriasis can differ and it can only be revealed after proper diagnosis of the affected person. Both the physical signs of psoriasis and the psychological aspects of psoriasis are assessed together. Only then the most appropriate treatment can be prescribed. Our herbal remedies for psoriasis work synergistically in the treatment. These are purely natural, free from chemicals or any side effects.
