Ayurvedic Approach to Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

Ayurveda is one of an oldest system of health care that has its roots in India. Ayurveda offers a natural way to maintain the overall health of the body.

Ayurveda discusses the three aspects of mental ability and they are dhi, dhriti and smriti. Dhi is the power of learning, dhriti the power of retention and smriti is the ability to recall. Any imbalance in any of these mental functions, then learning problems may occur. When these three aspects of mental ability are coordinated, then the person will have a healthy memory. If the toxins (ama) are obstructing the communication channels between these three functions, then it will not only lead to learning problems but also leads to behavioral problems.

Food is an important source of nutrients, which is essential for the normal functioning of the body. In general, food allergies can put a lot of strain on our body. No doubt, sweet foods are the favorite foods of many children, but a diet rich in high refined sugar may worsen the symptoms of ADHD. On the other hand, excluding the high refined sugar from the diet may improve the symptoms of this disorder.
