Causes, Symptoms & Ayurvedic Treatment of Bell's Palsy

Bell's palsy is a disorder, which affects one side of a person's face leading it to complete paralysed. One side of the face feels numbness and fails to respond to and perform any action on the face. This disorder happens when the facial nerve responsible for working of facial muscles breaks and shows inability to receive and post signals to brain. As a consequence of this disease, a person loses sense of taste, touch and smell. This disorder happens suddenly and can occur at any point of life.

There are a few causes that lead to this dangerous disorder. The prime responsible factor for this disorder is the herpes virus that leads to sore throat and cold sores. Other causes are inflammation of the facial nerve that leads to its damage. The third important cause is prevailing health issues in a person that causes complete paralysis of one side of the facial region.

Symptoms of Bell's Palsy

The basic indication of Bell's palsy is that a person feels absolute numbness on one side of his face. He feels problem while closing his eyes or touching his face. When a person can't taste anything and feels dry or watery eyes, experiencing intense pain inside or outside ears with ears becomes highly sensitive to sound, a person begins to drool and dribble.

Incomplete or incorrect regeneration of damaged facial nerve can lead to another disorder named "synkinesis". In this case, some of the facial nerve fibres instead of connecting to salivary glands get erroneously connected to lacrimal ducts. As a result of this, a patient's eyes become watery while eating anything.
