Chicken pox is one of the most common infectious disease of childhood that is characterized by a very itchy red rash. Usually, it is mild in children, but it can cause serious complications such as bacterial pneumonia.

Causes of Chicken Pox

It is caused by the virus Herpes varicella zoster. It is spread by droplets from coughing or sneezing. It may spread by contact with clothing or bed sheets of an infected person.

Symptoms of Chicken Pox

This disease appears as red, itchy rash which progresses from red bumps to fluid filled blisters. It spreads from the torso to the neck, limbs and face. It may appear in the mouth, around the eyes, on the scalp or on the genitals.

When to call a doctor?

If a person is facing following problems, then he should call his doctor:

  • Severe skin pain.
  • Greenish discharge from the rashes and skin that surround the rash becomes red.
  • Lethargy, persistent sleepiness and stiff neck are the symptoms of any serious illness.
  • A patient is recovering from chickenpox and suddenly begins running high fever, vomiting and drowsiness.

Diet for Chicken Pox patient's

A patient should be given fresh juice of fruits and vegetables for a few days. Lemon juice is considered to be beneficial for chicken pox patients. After a little improvement in condition, the patient should be given fruit rich diet for the next few days. Then after, a patient can take a well-balanced diet along with the fruits and vegetables.
