Importance of Dincharya in Ayurveda

Overview

Dincharya is basically defined as the daily routine. ‘Din’ means daily and ‘Acharya’ means to follow. As per the percepts given by Ayurveda, Dincharya provides an outline of the daily activities or routine to follow to have a healthy body and mind. To maintain a disease free healthy life, dincharya is absolutely essential. It is one of the best ways to get rid of the diseases, stay balanced and cure various illnesses to remain healthy and fit. Thus, the daily regime is known as Dincharya.

Ayurveda suggests that to be healthy, the body should be tuned to the daily cycle of the nature. This helps to maintain a rhythmic rate. Each and every individual faces a series of change daily. This brings a cycle constitution the predominance of Pitta, Kapha and Vata regularly.

Approximate Time of the Cycles of Dincharya

The First Cycle:

  1. Kapha – 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.
  2. Pitta – 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  3. Vata – 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.

The Second Cycle:

  1. Kapha – 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
  2. Pitta – 10 p.m. to 2 a.m.
  3. Vata – 2 a.m. to 6 a.m.

Ideal Schedule

Morning: 6 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The time to wake up for a healthy person is two hours prior to sunrise. The vata element is predominantly active during these hours. Vata is characterized by clear, subtle and light. It tines the body based on the various messages sent by the nature. This time, the air has a lot of sattva and it is pure and fresh. Drinking a glass of warm water in this period helps to eliminate the ama or toxins from the body. Brushing the teeth during this time maintains oral and dental hygiene. It purifies voice and strengthens the teeth. It helps to treat the sinus and the sense of smell. It helps to purify the face, neck, lungs, head and mind. Carrying out regular Pranayam or exercise daily during this period prevents the body from ageing and removes the stagnation of the mind. It strengthens the various metabolic processes of the body, reduces the unwanted fat and fills the body with Prana. After carrying out the exercise, having a bath will eliminate the oil, dirt and dust from the body. Then, carry out meditation, which helps to improve the awareness.

Afternoon: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

During this period, pitta is useful for carrying out digestion. The lunch during these hours should be the largest meal of the day. Then, during the time of the sundown, do meditation and prayers. This is the best time to get connected with the spiritual world.

Night: 7 p.m. to 4:30 a.m.

Dinner must be done around 7 p.m. And, it must be lighter as compared to lunch. From dinner to going to bed, there must be a gap of 3 hours. Spend this time happily with family and friends. Bedtime must be around 10 p.m. Before sleeping, massage the soles of the feet using an oil. This will provide a soothing and calming action to the body. Consume triphala before sleeping.

This routine of dincharya is highly recommended. It should be followed strictly to maintain a healthy well being. The body may show some resistance to the changes. However, these should be carried on a regular basis to lead a happy and healthy life.

Dincharya helps to get rid of the unbalances. This helps to maintain harmony of the body with the nature. Dincharya forms an essential part of the science of life. It helps to support the body and mind through the daily activities. The dincharya provides a glowing flawless skin, wonderful hair and helps to enhance the strength both physically and mentally. Dincharya is the concept of Ayurveda, which deals with ritual, mindfulness and being aware of the daily changes of our lives. It serves to be a healthier healing way with respect to any other medicines.
