Overview

Mumps is an acute infectious and contagious disease that is caused by the virus of the genus Rubulavirus. This disease is the viral infection of the parotid glands. Parotid glands are located just below the ear and produce saliva. This disease commonly affects children and occurs in the winter in epidemic form while in spring, it occurs frequently.

Symptoms of Mumps

Fatigue, sore throat and fever are the first signs of the mumps. The other most common symptom of mumps is the puffiness of the cheeks that occurs due to the swelling of the parotid glands. The whole face look enlarged due to the swelling of ear lobes. The pain may occur in the cheeks. This cheek pain increases during chewing or swallowing food. A person with mumps may feel tired and weak. In case, if this disease occurs in adults, then swelling of the testicles in males may be noticed while in case of females, swelling in the ovaries occur.

Healthy Diet for Person Suffering from Mumps

A person should take pitta pacifying diet if he is suffering from mumps. As solid foods are hard to chew, so they must be avoided. Soft, liquid foods are good for the health of such person. Rice water is beneficial for mumps. Acidic foods must be avoided as much as possible. Oily and pungent foods are unhealthy for people suffering from mumps. Ginger and garlic should be taken in a diet as these spices are very good for this type of problem. The neck should always be covered with a scarf or shawl during cold winds. Physical contact with the person suffering from mumps should be avoided as these disease is a contagious one.
