Home Remedies for Diabetes

Do you know, the worldwide occurrence of diabetic patients are 347 million! Isn't it surprising? Do you know, this disease is not communicable? Then, why this disease has spread all through the world? And How to stay away from diabetes? For that purpose, we should know what is diabetes?

In our body, insulin is the hormone, which regulates the blood sugars. Sugars are the primary source of energy, also called as glucose. The glucose is transported from intestine and liver to whole of the body via bloodstream. If glucose is not regulated properly that will lead many serious damage to the body's system, particularly nerves and blood vessels.

The concentration of glucose in the blood is measured during morning in fastening condition. The normal level of blood sugars, in non-diabetic individual is 70-100 mg/dL, during fasting, but after meal, it can exceed to 180 mg/dL.

There are two type of Diabetes:-

  1. Diabetes mellitus Type 1: In this condition, body does not produce appropriate level of insulin and regular administration of insulin is required.
  2. Diabetes mellitus Type 2: In this case, body becomes unable to use the insulin. Type 2 diabetes has been reported in 90% of people all though the world.
  3. The other case of diabetes has been reported in pregnant woman, known as gestational diabetes. Which could cause severe problem during pregnancy and delivery.

The measurable cause of diabetes has been observed due to the lack of physical activities, poor diet, obesity and urbanization.

Our irregular eating habits, lack of physical activities, obesity are the core reasons for the rise in diabetic patients. So, by taking control on these factors, we can make diabetic free world. But we don't have time, then what to do?

Don't worry! We present you some home remedies. In Ayurveda, lots of herbs has been described, which can control your blood sugars in body.

Home Remedies

1. Bitter gourd

It is also called as Kerala (Bitter gourd) in India. The extract of Bitter gourd has been reported to control the alpha glucosidase enzyme, which reduces the blood sugars.

How to use?

  1. Take one bitter gourd and slice it. Remove the seeds. Blend the sliced vegetables and obtain the juice. Drink the juice in morning.
  2. To cut off the bitterness, you can prepare the tea by boiling in water. Take that tea twice daily.

2. Fenugreek

Fenugreek or methi has many health benefits. Some evidence shows that Fenugreek exhibited the property to reduce the rate of sugar absorption in body, which could be beneficial to the type 2 diabetic patients.

How to use?

  1. Soak one or two tablespoon of methi in water overnight and drink morning at the earliest on empty stomach.
  2. You can take 30-50 mg of methi along with your food during eating.

3. Cinnamon

Cinnamon contains bioactive molecules, which regulates blood sugars in type 2 diabetic patients. One should be careful while using cinnamon because cinnamon contains coumarin, which is toxic to the liver.

How to use?

  1. Take only ½ of cinnamon powder in a cup of warm water and drink.
  2. You can boil 1 or 2 sticks of cinnamon in a cup of water and drink daily.

4. Guduchi

Guduchi is also known as Geloy. The extract of Guduchi has played role in inhibiting the alpha glucosidase enzyme activity, which is involved in glucose breakdown.

How to use?

Wash the stem part of plant and soak in water overnight. Drain out water and mash the starchy portion. Then consume daily.

5. Amla

Amla is an Indian Gooseberry, which is a rich source of vitamin C and leads into proper functioning of pancreases.

How to use?

  1. Remove seeds from 2-3 Indian Gooseberries and grind into fine paste. Squeeze the paste to extract the juice. Mix 1-2 table spoon in a cup of water and drink daily on empty stomach.
  2. You can mix Amla juice with Bitter Gourd juice for more effective results.

6. Black plum (Jamun)

Black plum is also known as Jamun in India and has been found very effective in controlling sugar level.

How to use?

  1. Purchase Jamun, whenever present in the market and eat as such.
  2. You could make the powder of seeds and take 1 table spoon it with a cup of water twice a day.

7. Leaves of Mango

Mango leaves can be used for controlling the insulin level in blood. They have been also observed in improving lipid profile.

How to use?

  1. Soak 10-15 tender leaves in the glass of water overnight. Drink in the morning on empty stomach.
  2. Make powder of dried leaves. Take ½ tablespoon of powder twice a daily

8. Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera contains phytosterols, which controls hyperglycemic effect for diabetic type 2 patients.

How to use?

Cut the leave then let the resin to be dripped out. Now, cut the leave such a way that you would be able to get the gel. Blend the gel with fruits and drink. You can mix with milk cream or coconut oil as per your taste.

9. Neem

Neem is one of the known tree for its medicinal properties. Aqueous extract of neem significantly decreased the blood sugar level in glucose induce hyperglycemia.

How to use?

  1. Take 1 table spoon of freshly prepared neem leaf juice daily on empty stomach in morning.
  2. Dry leaves and make powder of it. Use one tablespoon daily in morning.
