Interviewer: Good Morning Dr. Vikram
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: Good Morning
Interviewer: Dr. Vikram these days this problem of piles is very common today we want to have your view on this problem. So please tell us first what the problem is. What is this problem of piles?
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: Piles is a very common problem nowadays. Basically, it is a price we are paying for the erect posture we have. Mankind is paying the price, it never happens in the animals in the four-legged animals. And because of the continuous pressure and you know there are some veins inside the anal canal which are around the anus sphincter, so those veins because of pressure because of continuous strain or increased intra-abdominal pressure they become torturous and that mass is called pile mass and that can sometimes bleed some time they are dry. But that pile is very much painful in some cases. If it comes out or it is external pile then it is painful and swollen. If it is internal pile then there is only bleeding. There is usually no pain in the internal piles. Only patient complains that whenever I go to the toilet there is bleeding. I saw the blood comes out drip by drip. So that can be an internal pile.
Interviewer: So what are the causes of this problem. Why this happen.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: Nowadays it is happening very commonly. It has become very common, every household problem. The main reason is the lack of a fiber-rich diet. Previously early centuries, we used to eat lot of fruits, and vegetables a lot of grains, natural foods, but now you know, lot of bread and pasta low fiber even cold drinks, soft drinks, and all burgers, these fast foods, so these fat foods is one of the reasons people are eating the frozen food and this meat, this too much of non-veg diet consumption, consumption of noodles, pasta, and pizza without any fruits and vegetables.
Interviewer: So unhealthy diet and lifestyle.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: Irregular lifestyle, unhealthy eating habits, constipation, this all leads to constipation, so constipation put a strain on the canal, so that strain causes the swelling and inflammation of the veins in the canal. So they sometimes they bleed. They are inside that is called internal piles and they don’t pain and there is only bleeding, and if they come outside they become swollen and they become inflamed so that they are painful to touch. So there is itching also such symptoms are there. Pain, itching, swelling, and they become thrombosed like, Swollen and painful. So that these are the major symptoms, major causes of piles.
Interviewer: Dr. Vikram I also want to know the long sitting jobs, or long-standing jobs like lecturers they people more prone to this type of problem or only the constipation is the cause.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: Constipation is a major cause of the problem, long sitting jobs are also, sometimes because of sweating and because of the continuous sitting posture that can also lead to piles. But moreover, one of the major cause nowadays sitting on the pot while holding the newspaper. Spending too much time on the toilet seat, because people they keep on straining while they keep on sitting and also keep putting pressure on the anal canal. You should follow one tip I want to give is spend minimum time in the toilet seat. Whenever you want to defecate go to the toilet, just go and come back. It should, the evacuation should be very fast. Just like animals. They don’t spend too much time on defecation. They just keep sitting on, they keep reading the book.
Interviewer: This is why, these days even bathrooms are filled with newspapers and book stands.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: So that’s not recommended, that’s very bad habit.
Interviewer: Ok if someone accidentally or somehow suffers this problem, so is there any solution for this in Ayurveda for this?
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: Piles actually there are many good ayurvedic herbs which are very good for piles, they can shrink the pile mark, they can reduce the swelling, reduce the pain also, actually cure the problem. In modern medicine doctors, they use the ligation like the rubber band tie up the rubber band they slowly the pile mark shrinks or shreds away. And sometimes the laser surgery, cryo surgery, or the cauterization so many procedures surgical procedure is also there but in Ayurveda there are some herbs which can actually go to those veins and they can shrink the pile mark. There is some Kanchnaar guggul is there, Sanjivini vati we use to digest the toxins and digest to clear the fermentation process going on in the intestine which leads to constipation. So Sanjivini vati is there and Kachnaar guggul actually shrinks the pile mass shrinks all types of the cysts, tumors also so this Kanchnaar guggul is there. There is combination of various Ayurvedic herbs, its called piles off capsules. I develop this pile off.
Interviewer: Is there anything for pain also?
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: And fiber-rich ya this cover the pain also. This combination and fiber-rich fruits like Triphala, Vara churna, there is powder called Vara churna it contains three fruits powder. So they are very wonderful for cleansing.
Interviewer: Ya Vara churna you explained last time its best colon cleanser.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: So I also recommend something for the hygiene also some oil to be applied like Nirgundi oil and Kasisadi oil we use.
Interviewer: ok these are herbal oil.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: Herbal oil for applying in the anal region, just after going, after the defecation, after passing the stool one can apply. And local hygeine is very important. So using this pile care package, the combination of these ayurvedic herbs it helps to get rid of piles, next about 3 – 6 months. Symptoms they are relieved within five days, seven days to ten days time.
Interviewer: That’s very great.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: some people they apple steroidal or steroidal creams some people they apply the anesthetic local anesthetic creams so I won’t recommend those things because continuous application of steroidal creams is going to worsen the situation.
Interviewer: That’s a temporary solution.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: Ya that’s a very temporary solution. Once in a while is ok, I usually, oil is the best. You know oil is the best antibiotic, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory so sesame oil based this nirgundi oil what I recommend and kasisadi taila.
Interviewer: So Dr. Vikram apart from this any home remedies like things like someone is suffering very chronically then.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: There are so many home remedies which are explained by so many people and various books and internet also. But the crux of all the home remedies is consumption of fiber-rich fruits. All the fruits and vegetables and fruit, apples, papaya, grapes and pears, and melons all the fruits and all the vegetables. They all are very good for piles. So if you are not suffering from constipation you won’t suffer from any attack of piles. Local application of any sesame oil can reduce the pain and swelling.
Interviewer: That’s very great.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan: Stuffed heavy greasy food, cheese, yogurts, citrus fruits like juices fruit orange and lemon juice they cause acidity some time, they should not be given.
