Interviewer – Good Morning Dr. Vikram, actually I called you again today for some more information about herbs and I know this giloy is very popular in India almost everyone knows about Giloy. So what is this giloy?
Dr. Vikram Chauhan – Giloy I want to show you first.

Dr. Vikram Chauhan – This is Giloy, see the leaf very beautiful heart shaped leaves, this is a climber. It is a climber it grows up on the trees specially the neem tree. And other tress also it climbs all the trees and it is very common in India. All over India it is found and it is very good to use in so many diseases. The list of diseases where it used is endless. It is used everywhere and lot of research is also going on this. But ayurveda has a lots literature on this herb.
Interviewer – What is the English name of this giloy?
Dr. Vikram Chauhan – This is called Tinospora cordifolia, what Tinospora is Latin name so since it is not found anywhere else in the world only this part of the world india, srilanka and southeast Asia. That is very useful, it is useful in chronic fever. The giloy juice of this herb is used. The powder can also be used in chronic fevers because in case of low immunity it is very useful in low immunity when the especially lot of research is being done on AIDS it is good in improving the CD4 cell count also, it is very useful in cancers. I want to mention in all sort of cancers Giloy powder is very useful. Giloy Satva is very good preparation from the giloy.
Interviewer – Satva is like extract of the Giloy.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan – Yes it is aqueous extract, in fact there is procedure described in the ayurveda, how to make Giloy Satva? And this giloy is prepared, preparation is made called giloy satva that is given to the cancer patient to improve the immunity and to fight the cancer and to even eradicate the cancer. And giloy juice can also be given, Giloy Powder can be given, Giloy Satva, Giloy Extract Capsules can also be given.

Dr. Vikram Chauhan – I gave it to every patient whenever it is required.

Dr. Vikram Chauhan – Yes it is very good for all the condition.
Interviewer – Please tell us more about this like how’s its very useful what it do basically with Vata pitta Kapha.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan – It is very important question you asked. It is tridoshic herb, it balances Vata pitta and Kapha, it is not, it vichitravirya, there are some categories of herb which are called vichitravirya pratyarabdha dravya. Vichitravirya pratyarabdha dravya are those herbs which are balancing entire nature in any form they are given they just balance the doshas Vata pitta Kapha whatever the disease is they are going to be beneficial.
Interviewer – Generally its Ayurveda theory is like imbalance of the doshas is cause of disease. So this can be used for balancing the doshas.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan – All doshas, tridoshic. It is tridoshic herb.
Interviewer – So this can be used in, like what dose? Can someone use as it is or it should be prepared first.
Dr. Vikram Chauhan – The powder is used. The stem is usually taken not the leaves. You see, this is rainy season now a day. It is very tiny but usually it becomes this thick. This stem, stem is thick, this stem. It is this big and then those twigs of that plant they are cut and dried and then made into powder. They are used.
