Arimedadi Taila – Ingredients, Preparation, Indications, Benefits & More

Introduction

Arimedādi Taila is a renowned classical Ayurvedic medicated oil described in Sahasrayogam, primarily indicated for disorders of the oral cavity (Mukha Roga) with special emphasis on dental diseases (Danta Roga). It is a polyherbal formulation prepared using a large group of astringent, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing drugs, processed in Mūrcchita Tila Taila. The formulation is designed for both external and internal therapeutic procedures, including Gandūṣa, Nasya, Abhyanga, Vasti, and Pāna. Due to its strong Kledahara and Ropana actions, Arimedādi Taila is especially valued in chronic and infective oral conditions.

Taila Dravya: (2.56 Litres)

Mūrcchita Tila Taila

Drava Dravyas (Kwath Dravyas): (4 Kgs Each)

Arimeda tvak (Acacia farnesiana), Nyagrodha valkala (Ficus benghalensis), Udumbara valkala (Ficus racemosa), Ashvattha valkala (Ficus religiosa), Plaksha valkala (Ficus lacor), and water (40.96 litres).

Method Of Preparation

All Kalka (paste) dravyas are triturated to prepare a smooth paste. Separately, a kwath is prepared using Arimeda tvak (Acacia farnesiana), Nyagrodha valkala (Ficus benghalensis), Udumbara valkala (Ficus racemosa), Ashvattha valkala (Ficus religiosa), Plaksha valkala (Ficus lacor) by boiling them in water and reducing the liquid to one-fourth. The prepared Kalka is mixed with Mūrcchita Tila Taila and the kwath in a stainless-steel vessel. This mixture is then subjected to controlled heating following classical Sneha Paka (oil making) guidelines until the aqueous portion evaporates completely and the oil attains proper Siddhi Lakshanas (formed medicated oil). After cooling, the oil is filtered and stored in airtight glass containers.

Pharmacological Properties

Arimeddi Taila predominantly exhibits Kashaya (astringent) and Tikta (bitter) Rasa, Sheeta–Ushna (not cold not hot) mixed Virya (potency), and Ruksha–Snigdha balanced Guna (property), making it effective in controlling excessive Kapha dosha, Rakta dushti (blood vitiation), and microbial activity in the oral cavity. Herbs such as Arimeda (Acacia catechu), Khadira (Acacia catechu), Lodhra (Symplocos racemosa), Nyagrodha (Ficus benghalensis), and Triphala, a combination of Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), Vibhitaki (Terminalia bellirica), and Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) contribute to Rakta-shodhana (blood purification), Kledahara (drying), and Vrana-ropana (wound healing) actions. Aromatic drugs such as Ela (Elettaria cardamomum Maton), Tvak (Cinnamomum zeylanicum Blume), Karpura (Cinnamomum camphora (L.) J. Presl), and Aguru (Aquilaria agallocha Roxb.) provide deodorizing and antimicrobial effects.
