Abstract
Erratic lifestyles, recurrent infections, chronic metabolic stress, and long-standing tissue depletion often manifest together as abdominal discomfort, sinus tracts, skin lesions, weakness, and urinary or respiratory complaints. Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya) is a classical rejuvenative formulation designed to act simultaneously on the gut, rasa–rakta dhatu (circulating fluid- blood tissues), and vital srotas (body channels). It supports digestion, clears deep-seated toxins, promotes wound and sinus healing, and nourishes depleted tissues. By harmonising aggravated Vata, Pitta, and Kapha while rebuilding strength, Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya) offers a comprehensive Ayurvedic approach for complex, chronic presentations ranging from abdominal and metabolic disorders to skin, fistulous, respiratory, and wasting conditions.
Introduction
Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya) is a classical Rasoushadh (herbo-mineral formulation) described in authoritative Ayurvedic compendia in the context of rasayana and chronic systemic disorders. The name “Laxmibilas” conveys auspiciousness, prosperity, and restoration, reflecting its role in revitalising weakened tissues and supporting multi-system recovery. It is indicated in conditions such as abdominal disorders, metabolic and urinary imbalances, chronic skin and wound diseases, sinus and fistulous tracts, respiratory weakness, piles, obesity, and tissue-wasting states. Functioning as a powerful rasayana (rejuvenative), shothahara (anti-inflammatory), vrana-ropaka (wound-healing), and ojovardhaka (immunity-enhancing) remedy, this formulation acts on the gut, rasa-rakta and mamsa dhatu (circulatory fluids and muscular tissues), and multiple srotas including Annavaha, Rasavaha, Raktavaha, Mutravaha, and Pranavaha. By strengthening agni, resolving deep-seated ama (endotoxins), and nourishing depleted body tissues, Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya) helps restore structural integrity, improve metabolic stability, and enhance systemic vitality, making it a valuable option in complex, chronic presentations where weakness, infection, and obstruction coexist.

Ingredients Description
1. Abhraka Bhasma (Purified Mica Ash)
Abhraka Bhasma is described as having predominantly sweet and astringent taste (madhura, kashaya rasa), light and subtle qualities (laghu, sukshma guna), heating potency (ushna virya) and sweet post-digestive effect (madhura vipaka). These properties make it deeply rejuvenating, tissue-building and stabilising for all three doshas, especially in chronic weakness and respiratory depletion. At the chemical level it contains complex silicates and multiple trace elements that support haemopoiesis, enzyme function and cellular regeneration. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya) it acts as the core rasayana component, strengthening dhatu (body tissues), improving stamina and providing a stable base for other fast-acting herbs and minerals to work more effectively.
2. Rasa Shuddha (Purified Mercury)
Purified mercury is described as having a mixed taste with a predominance of astringent and sweet (kashaya–madhura rasa), heavy yet subtle qualities (guru, sukshma guna), generally heating potency (ushna virya) and pungent post-digestive effect (katu vipaka). It is considered yogavahi a catalytic carrier that penetrates deeply and carries the action of companion drugs into subtle channels. In modern terms, mercury in highly processed, minute form can act as a bio-enhancing, redox-active element influencing metabolic activity. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya) its main role is not as a bulk therapeutic but as a powerful facilitator: it sharpens digestive and tissue metabolism, accelerates onset of action and ensures that the tonic, antimicrobial and wound-healing herbs reach deeper tissues.
3. Gandhaka Shuddha (Purified Sulphur)
Purified sulphur is described as having sweet and pungent taste (madhura, katu rasa), unctuous and light qualities (snigdha, laghu guna), heating potency (ushna virya) and sweet post-digestive effect (madhura vipaka). This profile makes it detoxifying, mildly laxative, antimicrobial and supportive to skin and mucosal healing. Chemically it supplies elemental sulphur, important for sulphur-containing amino acids, glutathione-linked detox pathways and antimicrobial effects. Within Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya) it helps clear ama (metabolic toxins), supports skin and wound indications, and balances the binding and heavy nature of other minerals by keeping elimination pathways functional.
4. Karpura (Camphor Sublimed Extract)
Camphor has bitter and pungent taste (tikta, katu rasa), light, penetrating and sharp qualities (laghu, tikshna, sukshma guna), cooling systemic potency (sheeta virya) and pungent post-digestive effect (katu vipaka). This combination allows it to quickly clear obstruction, reduce spasms and pacify excess Kapha and Pitta in the channels. Its active constituents include camphor and related monoterpenes with proven antimicrobial, antispasmodic and mild analgesic actions. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya) it provides fast symptomatic relief in abdominal discomfort, cough and throat congestion, opens micro-channels so deeper rasayana ingredients can work, and offers antiseptic support in skin, wound and sinus conditions.
5. Jatikosha (Aril Of Nutmeg)
Nutmeg shows mainly pungent, bitter and astringent taste (katu, tikta, kashaya rasa), light and slightly unctuous qualities (laghu, snigdha guna), heating potency (ushna virya) and pungent post-digestive effect (katu vipaka). This profile makes it a strong digestive stimulant, carminative and grahi (absorbent), while also calming the mind. Chemically it contains essential oils rich in myristicin, elemicin and eugenol, which are antispasmodic, antimicrobial and mildly sedative. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya) mace deepens the digestive and carminative effect, helps control diarrhoea and gas in abdominal disorders, and adds a gentle nervine calm that is valuable in chronic, painful conditions.
6. Jatiphala (Myristica Fragrans Seed)
Nutmeg shares similar rasa to mace—pungent, bitter and astringent with a mild sweetness—and has light, unctuous, sharp qualities (laghu, snigdha, tikshna guna), heating potency (ushna virya) and pungent post-digestive effect (katu vipaka). This makes it digestive, stool-binding and mildly sedative. Its essential oils contain myristicin, safrole, eugenol and other phenylpropanoids with carminative, antidiarrhoeal, analgesic and CNS-modulating effects. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya) nutmeg reinforces control over loose motions, eases colic and bloating, improves appetite and gives a calming influence on the mind, which is helpful in chronic metabolic and respiratory illness with anxiety and disturbed sleep.
7. Vriddhadaraka Bija (Argyreia Speciosa Seed)
Argyreia speciosa seeds are described as having predominantly sweet and astringent taste (madhura, kashaya rasa), heavy and unctuous qualities (guru, snigdha guna), heating potency (ushna virya) and sweet post-digestive effect (madhura vipaka). They are considered a rasayana for nerves and shukra dhatu (reproductive tissue). Phytochemically they contain alkaloids, glycosides and flavonoids with adaptogenic, antioxidant and mild neurotropic actions. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya), these seeds help rebuild strength in depleted patients, support neuromuscular tone and reproductive vitality, and counteract the wasting seen in tuberculosis-like conditions and long-standing metabolic disease.
8. Dhusturaka (Datura Metel Seed)
Datura seeds have bitter and pungent taste (tikta, katu rasa), light, dry and sharp qualities (laghu, ruksha, tikshna guna), heating potency (ushna virya) and pungent post-digestive effect (katu vipaka). This combination gives strong antispasmodic, analgesic and channel-opening actions when used in minute doses. Their active constituents—tropane alkaloids such as atropine, hyoscyamine and scopolamine—have potent anticholinergic, bronchodilating and antispasmodic effects but significant toxicity at higher doses. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya), carefully titrated Datura contributes to relief from severe pain, cough and bronchospasm, and helps loosen spasm in sinuses and gut, while the rest of the formula and strict dosing mitigate its risks.
9. Bhanga Seed (Cannabis Sativa Seed)
Cannabis seeds are generally described with sweet and slightly astringent taste (madhura, kashaya rasa), heavy and unctuous qualities (guru, snigdha guna), cooling potency (sheeta virya) and sweet post-digestive effect (madhura vipaka). They nourish tissues, calm Vata and support sound sleep. Chemically, seeds are rich in fatty acids, proteins and minor cannabinoids and terpenes that provide anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anxiolytic support without the full psychoactivity of leaves or resin. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya), Bhanga seeds help ground the nervous system, ease chronic pain and restlessness, and support appetite and weight in debilitated patients.
10. Vidari Mula (Pueraria Tuberosa Root Tuber)
Vidari has sweet taste (madhura rasa), heavy and unctuous qualities (guru, snigdha guna), cooling potency (sheeta virya) and sweet post-digestive effect (madhura vipaka). This makes it a classic anabolic, soothing rasayana that builds tissues and pacifies Vata and Pitta. Its tubers contain isoflavonoids, saponins and starches with antioxidant, immunomodulatory and nutritive actions. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya), Vidari protects against tissue depletion from chronic disease, supports weight and strength, and cools and heals irritated mucosa in the gut and urinary tract, balancing the heating influence of some other ingredients.
11. Narayani (Asparagus Racemosus Root Tuber)
Narayani also known as Shatavari is predominantly sweet and bitter in taste (madhura, tikta rasa), heavy and unctuous in qualities (guru, snigdha guna), cooling in potency (sheeta virya) and sweet in post-digestive effect (madhura vipaka). It is one of the foremost rasayana and adaptogenic tonics, nourishing all seven tissues and particularly supporting reproductive, digestive and respiratory systems. Its active principles include steroidal saponins (shatavarins), isoflavones and mucilaginous polysaccharides with immunomodulatory, antiulcer and anti-inflammatory effects. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya), Shatavari counters dryness and heat, promotes mucosal healing, enhances resilience in chronic ulcers, cough and wasting disorders, and deepens the rejuvenative profile of the formula.
12. Nagabala (Grewia Hirsuta)
Nagabala exhibits sweet taste (madhura rasa), light and unctuous qualities (laghu, snigdha guna), cooling to slightly neutral potency (sheeta to anushna virya) and sweet post-digestive effect (madhura vipaka). It acts as a nerve and muscle tonic with demulcent, soothing action on inflamed tissues. The plant contains mucilage, flavonoids and mild alkaloids contributing to anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya), Nagabala supports neuromuscular strength, eases chronic cough and respiratory irritation, and protects tissues from the drying or irritating impact of stronger, more penetrating drugs.
13. Atibala (Abutilon Indicum Root)
Atibala has sweet taste (madhura rasa), unctuous and heavy yet relatively light-digesting qualities (snigdha, mridu guru guna), cooling potency (sheeta virya) and sweet post-digestive effect (madhura vipaka). It is known as a gentle nervine, muscle and joint tonic. Active constituents include mucilage, flavonoids and sterols with anti-inflammatory and analgesic potential. Within Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya), Atibala helps in rebuilding strength after chronic illness, supports joints and nerves in conditions like amavata and dhatu-kshaya, and softens the impact of heating mineral components.
14. Gokshuraka (Tribulus Terrestris Fruit)
Gokshura carries sweet and slightly bitter taste (madhura, tikta rasa), light and unctuous qualities (laghu, snigdha guna), cooling potency (sheeta virya) and sweet post-digestive effect (madhura vipaka). It is tridosha-balancing with special affinity for urinary and reproductive systems. Its fruits are rich in steroidal saponins (protodioscin and others), flavonoids and minerals that have diuretic, nephroprotective, anabolic and cardiotonic effects. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya), Gokshura helps manage prameha and urinary disorders, relieves oedema and abdominal distension, and supports strength and vitality in obese or metabolically compromised patients.
15. Nikuch Bija (Barringtonia Acutangula Seed)
Barringtonia seeds have bitter and astringent taste (tikta, kashaya rasa), light and dry qualities (laghu, ruksha guna), cooling to mildly heating potency depending on dose (anushna-sheeta virya) and pungent post-digestive effect (katu vipaka). They are renowned for their astringent, antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory actions on gut and mucosal tissues. Phytochemicals include saponins, tannins and triterpenes with documented antimicrobial and wound-healing properties. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya), these seeds specifically target chronic diarrhoea, haemorrhoids, fistulae and skin or sinus ulcers, consolidating the formula’s role in nadi-vrana, bhagandara and chronic rectal conditions.
16. Paan Patra (Betel Leaf – Used For Trituration)
Betel leaf has pungent and bitter taste (katu, tikta rasa), light, sharp and penetrating qualities (laghu, tikshna, sukshma guna), heating potency (ushna virya) and pungent post-digestive effect (katu vipaka). It is carminative, digestive, mild stimulant and antimicrobial. Its essential oils (chavicol, eugenol and others) improve circulation, digestion and local antisepsis. In Laxmibilasa Ras (Nardiya), betel leaf juice is the medium for trituration, so it does not contribute large bulk but significantly enhances the digestive, circulatory and antimicrobial profile of the tablets and improves absorption and potency of the whole formulation.
Method of Preparation
- Purified mercury and purified sulphur are triturated together in a mortar to prepare a smooth, lustreless black mixture called Kajjali (fine mercury–sulphur amalgam).
- Abhraka Bhasma (mica clax) is added to this Kajjali (fine mercury–sulphur amalgam) and triturated thoroughly until completely uniform.
- The remaining solid ingredients are separately powdered very finely and then mixed into the Abhraka-Kajjali blend to obtain a homogeneous dry powder.
- Fresh juice of betel leaf (Paan patra) is prepared and added gradually to the powder. The mass is levigated (Bhavana) for about three days until a soft, smooth paste is obtained.
- From this paste, small tablets of about 250 mg are rolled or moulded, then dried gently in shade until they become hard and stable.
- The dried tablets are stored in airtight containers, protected from moisture, heat and direct sunlight to preserve their potency.
