Nirvedan Churna – Medicinal Properties, Ingredients, Indications, Dosage & More

Classical Reference : Ras Tantra Saar and Siddha Prayog Sangreha

Classical Indication : Jwara

Introduction

Fever, known as Jwara in Ayurveda, is considered one of the most significant disorders, as it affects both the body and mind. It arises from the imbalance of Doshas along with impairment of Agni, leading to the formation of Ama and systemic discomfort. Ayurvedic management of fever focuses on restoring digestive strength, clearing metabolic toxins, and re-establishing internal balance. Nirvedan Churna is a classical herbal formulation traditionally used to support this process. Its carefully selected ingredients work in harmony to pacify aggravated Doshas, promote lightness, and assist the body’s natural response during febrile conditions.

  2. Fitraki (Potash alum)-1 tola
  3. Sohaga (Borax) -1 tola
  4. Godanti Bhasma (Calcium Sulphate)-1 tola
  5. Purified Swarnagarik (Arsenic trisulphide)-1 tola

Description Of Ingredients

1. Nausadar (Sodium Carbonate Compound)

In Ayurveda, it is Tikta (bitter) and Ushna (hot) in potency, which helps pacify Kapha and Pitta imbalances. It supports deep detoxification and can help reduce heat and discomfort associated with fever.

2. Fitraki (Potash Alum)

It is Kashaya (astringent) and Tikta (bitter) in taste and supports Ama (toxins) elimination. It helps maintain digestive fire (Agni) and aids in reducing fever by balancing Pitta and Kapha.

3. Sohaga (Borax)

Considered as Ushna (hot) and Laghu (light), it helps pacify Kapha and supports metabolic heat circulation, reducing chills and congestion during fever.

4. Godanti Bhasma (Calcium Sulphate)

It is Sheeta (cooling) and Tikshna (penetrating), it helps balance Pitta, alleviates excess heat, and provides a mild detoxifying effect during fever.

5. Purified Swarnagarik (Arsenic Trisulphide)

This is Ushna (hot) and Laghu (light) and is traditionally used in Rasayana formulations to support body strength and restore balance during systemic heat or fever conditions.

6. Peel Of Sweet Shobhajan (Moringa Oliefera)

This is Madhura (sweet) and Sheeta (cooling), it soothes the digestive tract and helps calm Pitta-related heat, reducing irritability and discomfort during fever.

7. Khurasani Ajwain (Trachyspermum Ammi)

Ushna (hot) and Tikshna (sharp), it supports digestive fire (Agni) and reduces Kapha accumulation, which helps in clearing congestion during fever.

8. Ash Of Barley Or Wheat

Sheeta (cooling) and Kashaya (astringent), it helps absorb excess heat, detoxifies the body, and balances Pitta, reducing fever intensity.

Method Of Preparation

Mix all the ingredients together, make a fine blend, and immediately store in a bottle.

Indications And Clinical Use

Nirvedan Churna helps reduce headache and other body pains, even when fever is not present. It alleviates fever, induces calmness, and promotes sound sleep. This preparation is an Ayurvedic alternative to modern aspirin just as aspirin can weaken the heart in some cases, this churna does not cause such harm. Therefore, the mixture should be given only when necessary and prepared carefully.

Dosage

1–1 masha (approx. 0.97 g) taken with boiled water.

Conclusion

Fever serves as an important signal of internal disharmony rather than an isolated symptom. Nirvedan Churna reflects the Ayurvedic approach of addressing the root cause by supporting Agni, reducing Ama, and balancing Doshas. Its gentle yet effective nature helps the body regain stability without suppressing natural processes. By emphasizing detoxification, digestive support, and systemic harmony, this formulation contributes to a smoother recovery and improved resilience. In an era where holistic wellness is increasingly valued, Nirvedan Churna stands as a reminder of Ayurveda’s timeless wisdom in managing fever through balance, simplicity, and respect for the body’s innate healing intelligence.
