Pullanyadi Taila – Ingredients, Preparation, Indications & More
(पुल्लान्यादि तैलम्)
Also known as Susavyādi Taila
Introduction
Pullānyādi Taila, also referred to as Susavyādi Taila in certain classical references, is a comprehensive Ayurvedic medicated oil primarily indicated in the management of Vrana (wounds and ulcers). The formulation is unique due to the inclusion of a large number of herbal Swarasa dravyas combined with Yamaka Sneha (combination of oil and ghee), enhancing both cleansing and healing properties. The presence of antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cooling, and tissue-regenerating herbs makes this oil particularly beneficial in chronic, infected, or non-healing wounds. The integration of Panchavalkala and Triphala further strengthens its wound-purifying and astringent actions.

The verse describes a polyherbal medicated oil prepared from the fresh juices (Swarasa) of multiple herbs including Susavi, Paribhadra, Jati, Nirgundi, Nimba, and others, along with the group of Dasha Pushpa (ten sacred flowers). The oil is processed with sesame oil and ghee (Yamaka Sneha) and further fortified with Kalka dravyas like Panchavalkala, Sariva, Triphala, and Chandana. The formulation is indicated for Vrana (wounds) and acts as both Vrana Shodhana (wound cleansing) and Vrana Ropana (wound healing) when applied locally.

Conclusion
Pullanyadi Taila is a highly elaborate classical formulation designed for comprehensive wound management. The large number of herbal Swarasa (juice) ingredients ensures broad-spectrum cleansing and antimicrobial action, while Panchavalkala and Triphala (three fruits) contribute astringent and tissue-tightening effects. The Yamaka Sneha (oil and ghee combination) enhances penetration, nourishment, and healing capacity. Its dual action of Vrana Shodhana (Wound cleansing) and Vrana Ropana (Wound healing and tissue regeneration) makes it suitable for both infected and chronic wounds. When used judiciously under Ayurvedic guidance, Pullānyādi Taila serves as a potent classical preparation for restoring skin integrity, promoting granulation, and supporting natural wound repair processes.
