Abstract
Saunf Ark is a classical Ayurvedic distillate preparation (Arka Kalpana) made using Saunf (Foeniculum vulgare). It is primarily indicated in gastrointestinal disturbances such as Atisara (diarrhea), Amlapitta (hyperacidity), and Aruchi (anorexia). The Ark is cooling, digestive, carminative, and balances Pitta and Vata doshas.
Introduction
In Ayurveda, Saunf (Foeniculum vulgare) is known for its Deepana (appetizer), Pachana (digestive), and Shita Virya (cooling potency) properties. Saunf Ark is a hydrosol prepared by traditional Arka Yantra distillation and is widely used to manage conditions of aggravated Pitta and Ama (toxins), especially those affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Its mild sweet taste, pleasant aroma, and cooling effect make it suitable for children and sensitive individuals as well.
Ingredient
- Saunf (Foeniculum vulgare)
Description Of The Ingredient
1. Saunf (Foeniculum vulgare)
This herb is a renowned Ayurvedic herb known for its Deepana (appetizer), Pachana (digestive), Grahi (absorbent), and Sheetala (cooling) properties. It contains active compounds like anethole, fenchone, and estragole, which exhibit antispasmodic, carminative, and anti-inflammatory effects. In Atisara (diarrhea) and Pravahika (dysentery), it controls excessive bowel movements by absorbing excess fluids and calming intestinal spasms. In Raktatisara (bloody diarrhea), it reduces inflammation and soothes Pitta-induced bleeding. For Aruchi (anorexia), it stimulates digestive fire and restores appetite, while in Amlapitta (hyperacidity), its cooling nature pacifies aggravated Pitta, relieving acidity, nausea, and burning sensations. Overall, Saunf serves as a gentle yet effective digestive and gut-repairing herb.
Method Of Preparation
- Take 1 part of the Saunf (Fennel) and soak it in 10 parts of water.
- The next morning, transfer the mixture into an Arka Yantra and extract 20 bottles of Ark from it.
Medicinal Properties
- Saunf Ark stimulates the secretion of digestive enzymes and improves the Agni (digestive fire), thereby enhancing the appetite and promoting better digestion. It helps break down Ama (toxins) in the gastrointestinal tract and reduces symptoms like heaviness, indigestion, and bloating.
- Due to its Sheeta Virya (cool potency), Saunf Ark is highly effective in calming aggravated Pitta dosha.
- This formulation helps to arrest diarrhea (Atisara) and control frequent loose stools as seen in Pravahika (dysentery). Its natural antispasmodic action relaxes the smooth muscles of the intestines, relieving abdominal cramps and spasmodic pain.
