Reference : Ayurveda Sar Sangrah, Page number – 647

Abstract

Shunti Ark is a classical Ayurvedic distilled preparation primarily used to pacify Vata and Kapha doshas. It is derived from Shunti (Zingiber officinale) through the traditional Arka Kalpana method. Renowned for its deepan-pachan (appetizer and digestive), shothahara (anti-inflammatory), and shwasahara (anti-respiratory) properties, this Ark is indicated in various gastrointestinal and respiratory disorders.

Introduction

In Ayurveda, Shunti (dry ginger) is revered as a powerful remedy for digestive and inflammatory ailments. Shunti Ark, a liquid distillate obtained from dry ginger, is formulated using traditional Arka Yantra distillation. This formulation is especially effective in managing weak digestion (Mandaagni), bloating (Adhmaan), and respiratory discomfort (Shvasa). With its warming and penetrating qualities, it kindles agni (digestive fire), alleviates ama (toxins), and supports the body’s natural detoxification mechanisms.

Ingredients

  • Shunti (Zingiber officinale)

Description Of The Ingredients

1. Shunti (Zingiber officinale)

Known as dry ginger, Shunti is katu (pungent) in taste, ushna (hot) in virya (potency), and laghu-tikshna (light and penetrating) in guna (quality). It acts primarily on the digestive and respiratory systems. The active constituents, such as gingerol and shogaol, are responsible for its anti-inflammatory, carminative, and digestive properties. It is highly beneficial in conditions like indigestion (Ajirna), rheumatoid disorders (Amavata), and abdominal colic (Udara Shoola), by enhancing agni and clearing ama.

Method Of Preparation

  • Take 1 part of Shunthi powder.
  • Soak it overnight in 10 parts of water.
  • On the next day, transfer the soaked mixture into an Arka Yantra.
  • Distill the mixture to obtain 20 bottles of Ark.
  • Collect the distillate in sterilized bottles and store in a cool, dry place.

Medicinal Properties

  • Works as an appetizer, digestive stimulant, and taste enhancer, improving overall gastrointestinal function.
  • Helps in balancing metabolism and reducing gas, bloating, and respiratory congestion.
  • Exhibits anti-inflammatory and detoxifying effects, aiding in relief from swelling and toxin buildup.

  • Mandagni (Weak digestive fire)
  • Aruchi (Anorexia)
  • Ajirna (Indigestion)
  • Amavata (Rheumatoid arthritis)
