Abstract

Yakuti Ras is an esteemed herbo-mineral compound in Ayurvedic cardiology known for its ability to stabilize cardiac function, mental faculties, and pranic vitality. Yakuti Ras offers immediate support to the nervous and circulatory systems. Its unique combination of precious Pishti (fine powder of calcined gems), aromatic herbs, and cardiac tonics like Kasturi (Musk) and Amber provides fast-acting relief in cardiac neurosis, palpitations, anxiety, and chronic fatigue syndromes.

Introduction

Yakuti Ras is a classical Rasashastra formulation that targets disorders of the Hridaya (heart), Mana (mind), and Prana Vaha Srotas (vital energy channels). The word “Yakuti” refers to something valuable and rare, symbolizing the high-value ingredients like Manikya (Ruby calcinate), Mukta (Pearl calcinate), Pravala (Coral calcinate), and Kasturi (Musk). This Rasayana (rejuvenator) formulation is particularly effective in diseases caused by mental exhaustion, Vata-Pitta imbalance, or stress-induced conditions like cardiac irregularities, tremors, and palpitations. It strengthens the heart muscles, Stabilizes pulse (Nadi), and improves resilience to emotional and physical stress.

Description Of Ingredients

1. Manikya Pishti (Ruby Calx / Red Ruby Bhasma)

Manikya Pishti is a precious gem preparation made from Manikya (Ruby), processed into a fine Pishti (micro-fine gem calx) using rose water or Gulab Arka. It possesses Katu-Tikta Rasa (pungent-bitter taste), Laghu (light) and Ruksha (dry) Guna, Ushna Virya (hot potency), and acts primarily on the Rakta and Majja Dhatu (body tissue associated with blood and bone marrow). It is Tridosha-hara (three dosha balancer), with a marked effect on Vata and Kapha pacification, and helps regulate Pitta when taken with appropriate Anupaan like cow’s milk or rose water. In Yakuti Ras, Manikya Pishti plays a vital role as a cardiotonic, blood purifier, and mental rejuvenator. It improves circulation, strengthens the cardiac muscle, and helps in disorders such as palpitations (Hridspandana), cardiac fatigue, anxiety, mental unrest, and blood tissue depletion (Rakta-ksaya). Ruby, being a Sun-dominant gemstone, imparts vital energy (Tejas) and uplifts both physical and emotional strength.

2. Panna Pishti (Emerald Calx / Emerald Gem Powder)

Panna Pishti is a Pishti (micro-fine gem calx) prepared from Panna (Emerald), a precious green gemstone associated with Buddha Graha (Mercury) in Ayurvedic gem therapy. It is traditionally processed using rose water (Gulab Arka) or sometimes Brahmi swarasa, enhancing its medhya (nootropic) and manas-shamak (mind-calming) properties. It is Madhura-Tikta Rasa (sweet-bitter in taste), Sheeta Virya (cool in potency), and is particularly beneficial for Pitta-Vata balancing.

In the formulation of Yakuti Ras, Panna Pishti acts as a cardiac coolant, neuro-tonic, and blood purifier. It strengthens the nervous system, calms excessive heat in the heart and brain, and is especially useful in disorders such as cardiac anxiety (Hrid-Udvega), stress-induced palpitations, insomnia, and Pitta-vitiated fevers. It nourishes the Rakta (blood) and Majja Dhatu (nervous tissue) and supports emotional stability, enhancing clarity of thoughts and mental sharpness. Its Sheeta Veerya (cold potency) helps to neutralize excess Tejas (heat) in the heart and mind, providing relief from burning sensations, irritability, and mental restlessness, particularly when co-administered with Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) or milk.

3. Mukta Pishti (Pearl Calx / Pearl Calcium Powder)

Mukta Pishti is a highly revered Pishti (gem preparation) made from pure Mukta (natural pearls), prepared by triturating with Gulab Arka (rose water) under sunlight, enhancing its cooling (Sheetala) and mind-soothing (Manas-sthirikar) effects. It possesses Madhura Rasa (sweet taste), Sheeta Virya (cold potency), and acts primarily on Pitta dosha and Rakta dhatu (blood tissues), providing deep nourishment and emotional balance.

In Yakuti Ras, Mukta Pishti contributes significantly to the cardio-protective, neuro-cooling, and Rasayana (rejuvenative) properties of the formulation. It calms excess heat and emotional agitation, thus useful in cardiac palpitations, insomnia, hysteria, burning sensations, and mental fatigue. It also strengthens the heart (Hridaya), brain (mastishka), and Shukra Dhatu (reproductive fluid), promoting inner calm, vitality, and confidence. It is especially indicated in Pitta-Vata disorders involving the heart, blood, and mind, such as fever with burning sensation, emotional trauma, stress, high blood pressure, and menopausal emotional imbalances. Mukta is also a rich source of natural calcium, supporting bone strength, teething in children, and cardiac muscle tone.

4. Praval Pishti (Coral Calx / Coral Calcium)

Praval Pishti is a refined Pishti (micro-fine calx) prepared from Praval (coral), a marine-origin mineral derived from red coral branches. It is processed with Gulab Arka (rose water) or cow’s milk in a controlled environment to retain its Sheetala (cooling) and Pittashamak (Pitta-pacifying) properties. It has Madhura-Tikta-Kashaya Rasa (sweet-bitter-astringent taste) and Sheeta Virya (cold potency), making it especially effective for Rakta and Pitta vitiation.

In the formulation of Yakuti Ras, Praval Pishti serves as a cardiac coolant, antipyretic, and blood stabilizer. It is indicated in conditions marked by burning sensation, emotional agitation, excessive body heat, and fever. It supports heart health, calms Palpitation (Hridspanda), and is useful in hypertension, restlessness, and acid-peptic disorders arising from Pitta imbalance.

5. Kaharava Pishti (Amber Calx / Amber Resin Pishti)

Kaharava Pishti is a unique Ayurvedic Pishti (gemstone calx) prepared from Kehrava (Amber)—a fossilized resin known for its subtle yet powerful influence on the heart, mind, and blood channels. It is processed using rose water (Gulab Arka) to enhance its cooling, stabilizing, and nervous toning actions. Kehrava is traditionally attributed with Madhura-Kashaya Rasa (sweet-astringent taste) and Sheeta Virya (cold potency). It acts primarily on the Rakta (blood), Hridaya (heart), and Majja (nervous system).

In Yakuti Ras, Kehrava Pishti contributes to its efficacy as a cardiotonic, nervine sedative, and blood-stabilizer. It is highly beneficial in cases of heart palpitations (Hridspandana), stress-induced arrhythmias, excessive bleeding (Rakta Pitta), burning sensation, and emotional restlessness. Its astringent quality helps in preventing excessive discharge, both physically (as in bleeding) and emotionally (as in anxiety). Kaharava Pishti is especially revered for strengthening the cardiac nerves, calming emotional overactivity, and cooling excessive heat in the body and mind.

6. Puran Chandra Uday (A Classical Ayurvedic Mineral Formulation)

Puran Chandra Uday is a rare and potent herbo-mineral preparation used in cardio-nervine disorders, sexual debility, and as a Rasayana (rejuvenator). The name “Puran Chandra Uday” symbolically represents the full moon rising, indicating its calming, cooling, and rejuvenating effect on body and mind, much like the soothing moonlight in a disturbed night. It contains a blend of precious metals and minerals—often including Gold, Silver, Pearl, Coral, and purified Mercury/Sulfur combinations—processed through Bhavana (trituration) with neuro-tonic herbs like Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri), Shankhpushpi (Convolvulus prostratus), and Abresham (Silk Cocoon Filament). It is Tridosha-shamaka (three dosha pacifier), especially calming to Vata and Pitta.

In Yakuti Ras, it enhances the overall medhya (nootropic), hridya (cardiac tonic), and balya (strength-promoting) actions. It is especially useful in conditions like cardiac neurosis, insomnia, chronic fatigue, nervous breakdowns, and emotional imbalances. It nourishes Majja Dhatu (nervous tissue), Shukra Dhatu (reproductive fluid), and Ojas (vital essence), thus restoring strength and calm. Its inclusion elevates Yakuti Ras as a premium Rasayana, making it suitable for post-fever convalescence, neuro-cardiac recovery, and psychosomatic complaints.

7. Swarna Vark (Gold Leaf / Gold Foil)

Swarna Vark, also known as gold leaf, is an ultra-thin sheet of purified gold used externally on pills and internally in certain elite Ayurvedic preparations like Yakuti Ras. In Ayurveda, Swarna is considered a Rasayana (rejuvenative) with deep Medhya (nootropic) and Ojovardhak (immunity-boosting) effects. Gold is Madhura-Tikta Rasa (sweet-bitter in taste), Sheeta Virya (cool in potency), and Tridoshaghna (balances the three doshas), especially pacifying Vata and Pitta doshas.

When used in the form of a leaf, it allows for minute dosages that are readily absorbed, influencing subtle energy channels (Srotas) and Manovaha Srotas (mental faculties). In Yakuti Ras, Swarna Vark enhances the Sanskār (potency and aura) of the formulation, supporting cardiac strength, longevity, mental clarity, and emotional resilience.

It empowers the formulation to act as a cardioprotective, adaptogenic, and nervine stabilizer, making it particularly beneficial in psychosomatic heart conditions, weakness of the heart muscles, emotional shock (Manovikara), and chronic fatigue. Swarna also enhances the absorption and assimilation of other gems and minerals in the preparation, thereby acting as a Yogavahi (catalyst).

8. Amber (Ambra Grisea / Ambergris)

Amber (Ambra grisea), commonly known as Ambergris, is a rare marine-origin substance formed in the digestive tract of sperm whales. In Ayurvedic and Unani pharmacopoeia, it is considered Yogavahi (catalyst) with strong Vajikarana (reproductive strengthening) and Hridaya-balya (cardiac tonic) effects. It has Madhura-Katu Rasa (sweet-pungent taste) and is believed to carry Ushna Virya (hot potency) and Sookshma-Sara Guna (subtle, penetrating quality).

In the formulation of Yakuti Ras, Ambergris plays a central role as a nervine tonic, mood stabilizer, and cardiac energizer. It is particularly useful in conditions like heart palpitations (Hridspandana), cardiac debility, mental fatigue, sexual exhaustion, and emotional trauma. Its rare properties make it invaluable in psychosomatic ailments where both the mind and heart are affected simultaneously.

Ambergris is also known for its aromatic and calming properties, working on the Manovaha Srotas (mind channels) and Hridaya Srotas (heart channels). It is included in Yakuti Ras to stabilize vitiated Vata-Pitta, enhance ojas, and offer deep restorative and regenerative action, especially in those suffering from chronic nervous debility, sexual dysfunction, insomnia, and emotional disturbances.

9. Kasturi (Musk / Moschus moschiferus)

Kasturi, known as Musk, is an aromatic secretion obtained from the navel gland of the male musk deer (Moschus moschiferus). It is regarded as one of the most precious and powerful nervine and cardiac stimulants. It possesses Tikta-Katu Rasa (bitter-pungent taste), Ushna Virya (hot potency), and Laghu-Tikshna Guna (light and penetrating qualities), making it a fast-acting agent on Hridaya srotas (cardiac), Manovaha (mental), and Pranavaha (respiratory).

In Yakuti Ras, Kasturi (Musk) is revered for its profound effects on cardiac health, consciousness, and emotional balance. It is indicated in Hridroga (cardiac disorders), especially those associated with emotional distress, vasospasm, fainting (Murchha), and anxiety-induced palpitations. It revives and stimulates the cardiac rhythm, clears the mind fog, and stabilizes nervous tremors. Its inclusion in Yakuti Ras strengthens the formulation’s ability to act swiftly in psycho cardiac crises, making it beneficial in neurogenic heart diseases, stress-related palpitations, emotional debility, and mental fog.

10. Ābresham (Silk Cocoon Filament) – Processed Silk

Ābresham is the refined filament derived from the cocoon of the silkworm (Bombyx mori), used in Unani and Ayurvedic Rasayana formulations. It is Madhura (sweet) and Kashaya (astringent) in taste, with Sheeta Veerya (cool potency). It pacifies Vata and Pitta doshas, nourishes Rasa and Majja Dhatus, and promotes Ojovriddhi (enhancement of vitality). In Yakuti Ras, Katra Hua Ābresham (shredded silk) is included for its cardio-tonic, nervine, and rejuvenating actions. It improves heart rhythm, stabilizes mental functions, and helps in conditions like palpitations, anxiety, debility, and chronic fevers. It is rich in natural proteins (fibroin and sericin). Ābresham is interpreted in Ayurvedic terms as balya (strengthening) and ojaskara (vital essence enhancer). It supports Dhatwagni (vital force nourishing the body tissues), tones the Hridya (heart), and calms disturbed Vata in Manovaha and Pranavaha Srotas (mental and respiratory channels), thus proving beneficial in Sannipat Jwara, Hridroga, and post-illness convalescence.

11. Kesar (Saffron / Crocus sativus)

Kesar, known as Saffron, is the dried stigma of the flower Crocus sativus. It is a highly revered herb in Ayurveda for its Rasayana (rejuvenating), Hridya (cardiotonic), and Medhya (brain-nourishing) properties. It has Tikta-Madhura Rasa (bitter-sweet taste), Ushna Virya (hot potency), and Laghu-Ruksha Guna (light and dry qualities). It primarily pacifies Vata and Kapha, and mildly balances Pitta when used appropriately.

In the formulation of Yakuti Ras, Kesar (Saffron) plays a crucial role in enhancing cardiac vitality, purifying the blood, and uplifting mental health. It is especially effective in emotional heart conditions such as grief-associated palpitation, sadness, and vasospastic angina. It improves circulatory strength, acts as a mild stimulant, and is particularly useful in Sannipat Jwara (chronic fevers), nervous weakness, and cardiac fatigue due to chronic stress or illness.

Kesar (saffron) is also well known for boosting complexion, ojas (vital essence), and satva (mental clarity). It supports tranquil sleep, reduces mental irritability, and enhances Sattvic qualities in the psyche, making it ideal for psychocardiac disorders. Its inclusion in Yakuti Ras synergizes with other ingredients like Kasturi (Musk) and Jaiphal (Nutmeg) to restore emotional balance, cardiac rhythm, and overall vitality in both physical and subtle levels.

12. Jaiphal (Nutmeg / Myristica fragrans)

Jaiphal, commonly known as Nutmeg, is a potent aromatic spice derived from the seed of Myristica fragrans. In Ayurvedic medicine, it is recognized for its Hridya (cardiotonic), Medhya (nootropic), and Vata-Kapha shamak (dosha-balancing) properties. It carries Tikta-Katu Rasa (bitter-pungent taste), Ushna Virya (hot potency), and Snigdha-Laghu Guna (unctuous and light qualities).

In Yakuti Ras, Jaiphal contributes significantly to mental and cardiac stabilization. Its Hridaya balya (heart-strengthening) action is particularly useful in managing conditions like cardiac neurosis, palpitation (Hridspandana), and emotional disturbances that impact heart rate and rhythm. Its deepan-pachan (digestive stimulant) effects further aid in Samprapti Vighatana (breaking the pathogenesis) of heart diseases that stem from Ama (toxins) or Agni-mandya (digestive weakness).

Jaiphal is also revered for its ability to calm the mind, making it beneficial in stress-induced cardiac symptoms such as insomnia, anxiety, and tachycardia. By working simultaneously on the Manovaha srotas (mental channels) and Hridaya srotas (cardiac channels), Jaiphal ensures a balanced psychocardiac response, making it especially suitable in chronic conditions involving both mind and heart.

13. Bahman Safed (Centaurea behen Linn.) – White Bahman Root

Bahman Safed is the root of Centaurea behen, known for its strength-promoting (balya) and rejuvenating (rasayana) properties. It is Madhura (sweet) and Tikta (bitter) in taste, with Sheeta Veerya (cool potency). It pacifies Pitta and Vata doshas and nourishes Shukra and Majja Dhatus (reproductive fluids and bone marrow tissues). In Yakuti Ras, these roots contribute to nervine strength, heart health, and help counteract general debility and loss of energy.

Its classical use includes treatment of cardiac weakness, palpitations, physical exhaustion, seminal debility (Shukrakshaya), and in recovery post chronic fevers. It acts as a mild aphrodisiac and medhya (nootropic), supporting mental clarity and mood.

14. Bahman Lal (Salvia haematodes or A Regional Variety Of Red Salvia)

Bahman Lal is the red variant of Salvia, often attributed to the roots of Salvia haematodes or closely related red-colored tonic roots. It is Tikta (bitter) and Katu (pungent) in taste, with Ushna Veerya (hot potency), and acts as a deep dhatu poshaka (tissue-nourishing) herb.

It pacifies Kapha and Vata, and enhances Agni (digestive fire). In Yakuti Ras, Bahman Lal (Red Salvia) strengthens the heart, improves blood circulation, and works as a circulatory stimulant. It is indicated in cardiac fatigue, mental torpor, low libido, and weak nerves. The presence of red pigmentation links it to Rakta dhatu shuddhi (blood purification) and vital force enhancement.

Together, Bahman Safed (White Bahman) and Bahman Lal (Red Salvia) form a synergistic pair, offering cooling and heating balance, making Yakuti Ras suitable for cardio-neurasthenic conditions with both Vata-Pitta involvement.

15. Safed Mirch (Piper nigrum – White Pepper)

Safed Mirch, or White Pepper, is the dehusked seed of Piper nigrum, known for its Deepana (appetizer) and Pachana (digestive stimulant) properties. It has Katu Rasa (pungent taste), Laghu (light) and Tikshna (penetrating) Guna, with Ushna Veerya (hot potency) and Katu Vipaka (pungent post-digestive effect). It primarily pacifies Kapha and Vata doshas and aggravates Pitta if used excessively. In Yakuti Ras, white pepper acts as a bioenhancer (Yogavahi) that enhances the absorption and effectiveness of other precious ingredients. It stimulates Agni (digestive fire), clears Ama (metabolic toxins), and supports circulation, making it effective in conditions like cardiac debility, chronic fever, palpitations, and nervous exhaustion. It also plays a crucial role in opening up blocked srotas (channels) and supports delivery of medhya (brain-tonic) and hridya (cardiac tonic) herbs deep into tissues.

16. Laung (Clove / Syzygium aromaticum)

Laung, known as Clove in English, is the aromatic dried flower bud of the Syzygium aromaticum tree. In Ayurveda, it is categorized under Katu-Tikta Rasa (pungent-bitter taste), Ushna Virya (hot potency), and Laghu-Tikshna Guna (light and penetrating qualities). It effectively pacifies Kapha and Vata dosha, while mildly aggravating Pitta when used in excess. In Yakuti Ras, Laung serves as a cardiac stimulant, digestive enhancer, and nervine revitalizer. Its Ushna-Tikshna nature supports improved peripheral and coronary circulation, making it beneficial in conditions like cold extremities, weak cardiac output, or sluggish pulse due to Kapha-Vata dominance.

Laung’s Hridaya balya (heart-strengthening) property is complemented by its Vatanulomaka (Vata-regulating) action, which soothes cardiac irritability, palpitations, and helps stabilize the nervous system. It is particularly helpful in emotional exhaustion, low blood pressure, and cardiac debility post-fever or trauma. Additionally, Laung acts as a natural stimulant to Agni (digestive fire), thus ensuring proper digestion and prevention of Ama accumulation, which is often a hidden cause in psychocardiac disorders. Its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties add further Rasayana (rejuvenating) value to Yakuti Ras.
