Ayurvedic Treatment of Membranous Glomerulonephritis

Membranous Glomerulonephritis - An Overview

Membranous Glomerulonephritis -- also known as nephropathy, nephritis, or extra membranous glomerulonephritis -- is a slowly progressive kidney ailment, for which Ayurvedic doctors at 'Planet Ayurveda' recommend the use of herbal formulations prepared from several potent herbs. This rare disease develops when kidneys cannot function properly because of inflammation of kidney structures.

In Membranous Glomerulonephritis, the kidneys of the sufferers are damaged in such a way that protein from their blood gets filtered into their urine; thereby leading to a deficiency of protein. The lack of protein further leads to swelling and water retention.

Membranous Glomerulonephritis may either develop as a primary kidney disease without any known cause, or it may develop because of some other underlying health condition. This disease mostly affects people above 40 years of age.

Membranous Glomerulonephritis can lead to a number of other serious health conditions including kidney failure, high blood pressure, blood clots, and high cholesterol.

Symptoms of Membranous Glomerulonephritis

The symptoms of Membranous Glomerulonephritis may vary from patient to patient. Nonetheless, some of the typical symptoms associated with this disease -- for which Planet Ayurveda's herbal formulations can be very useful -- include the following:

  • Swelling of hands, face, or feet
  • Blood in urine
  • Foamy urine

  • Need to urinate more at night
  • Loss of appetite

Causes of Membranous Glomerulonephritis

In some cases, Membranous Glomerulonephritis may develop as a kidney ailment by itself --- that is, it may not be caused by any other health condition. However, in other cases, this disease may result from some other health conditions. The common health conditions or health-related cases which can cause this disease have been listed below:

  • Use of some specific medicines, such as trimethadione, penicillamine, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, or even some skin-lightening creams
  • Exposure to toxins, like mercury, etc.
  • Affect on the immune system due to infections like malaria, hepatitis B, Hepatitis C endocarditis, or syphilis
  • Certain types of cancer, including melanoma
  • Bone marrow transplant or kidney transplant
  • Autoimmune disorder like rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, or Grave's disease.

Diagnosis of Membranous Glomerulonephritis

Membranous Glomerulonephritis can be diagnosed with the help of certain tests which include the following:

  • Urinalysis
  • Blood urea nitrogen (BUN)
  • Blood and urine albumin tests
  • Lipid panel
  • Creatinine blood
  • Creatinine clearance
  • Blood and urine protein
