Introduction

Dhanwantharam Kashayam is an ayurvedic formulation that is known to contain mixture of herbs. This formulation is present in a decoction form.

Ingredients

  • Meda – Polygonatum cirrhifolium
  • Ksheerakakoli – Lilium polyphyllum
  • Mahameda – Polygonatum verticillatum
  • Bala moola – Root of Sida rotusa
  • Sariva – Hemidsemus indicus
  • Yava – Hordeum vulgare
  • Kulattha – Dolichos biflorus
  • Daru – Cedrus deodara
  • Manjishta – Rubia cordifolia
  • Tagara – Valeriana wallichi
  • Jeevaka – Malaxis acuminata
  • Kakoli – Fritillaria roylei
  • Chandana – Pterocarpus santalinus
  • Kushta – Saussurea lappa
  • Rishabhaka – Manilkara hexandra
  • Agaru – Aquilaria agallocha
  • Punarnava – Boerhaavia diffusa
  • Ashwagandha – Withania somnifera
  • Saindhava – Rock salt
  • Kalanusari – Ichnocarpus frutescens
  • Shaileya – Convolvulus pluricaulis
  • Vacha – Acorus calamus
  • Shatavari – Asparagus racemosus
  • Ksheerashukla – Anogeissus latifolia

  • Dashamoola – group of ten roots:-
  1. Bilva – Aegle marmelos
  2. Agnimantha – Premna mucronata
  3. Shyonaka – Oroxylum indicum
  4. Gambhari – Gmelina arborea
  5. Patala – Stereospermum suaveolens
  6. Shalaparni – Desmodium gangeticum
  7. Prinshnaparni – Urarica picta
  8. Gokshura – Tribulus terrestris
  9. Brihati – Solanum indicum
  10. Kantakari – Solanum xanthocarpum
  • Triphala – known to contain following three herbs:-
  1. Haritaki - Terminalia chebula
  2. Bibhitaki - Terminalia bellirica
  3. Amla - Emblica officinalis

Method of Preparation

  • Take all the ingredients in equal quantity and put in a container.
  • Add the water in that container and start boiling process.
  • Boil the water till the water is reduced up to its one fourth level.
  • Filter the water mixture after the boiling process.
  • Now the decoction is ready for use.

Dose

5 to 10 ml, empty stomach, one to two times a day, before meals, with equal quantity of water.

Contraindications

  • Over dose can cause the problem of gastritis.
  • Take the medicine under doctor’s prescription.
