Ingredient Description
- Rasasindura– Rasasindura is a premier Ayurvedic Kupipakwa Rasayana prepared by the controlled sublimation of purified Mercury and Sulfur. It acts as a potent Yogavahi (catalyst), meaning it carries the medicinal properties of the other ingredients deep into the tissues (Dhatus) while significantly boosting their efficacy. It specifically stimulates the liver and spleen—the primary sites of blood formation—to correct the root cause of Pandu (anemia). Rasasindura acts as a cellular stimulant and immunomodulator. In its processed sulfide form, it is thought to enhance metabolic activity and energy production within cells, ensuring that the body’s hematopoietic system is “awakened” to produce more red blood cells while strengthening the overall immune response.
- Loha Bhasma (Incinerated Iron)– Loha Bhasma is the cornerstone of Ayurvedic hematology, consisting of iron that has undergone hundreds of cycles of purification and incineration with herbal juices. It is the ultimate Rakta-vardhaka (blood-builder) that directly replenishes the Rakta Dhatu (blood tissue) and treats the “pallor” associated with anemia. Its cooling potency (Sheeta Virya) ensures it builds blood without causing excessive internal heat. Loha Bhasma provides iron in a nano-crystalline form (typically 10–60 nm), which offers significantly higher bioavailability and absorption rates compared to synthetic iron salts. It builds Ojas (vitality), helping the patient recover from the extreme fatigue of anemia. Giloy is a documented hematopoietic stimulant; it triggers the proliferation of bone marrow cells and increases the count of all blood elements, including erythrocytes and leucocytes. Its anti-inflammatory properties also help manage “Anemia of Chronic Disease” by reducing the systemic inflammation that often traps iron away from the blood.
- Trikatu Decoction– Trikatu is the “three-pungent” combination of Black Pepper, Long Pepper, and Ginger. It acts as a Deepana-Pachana (digestive stimulant) that burns away the “Aama” (toxins) blocking the absorption of minerals. It increases the “warmth” of the formulation to ensure the heavy metals don’t cause sluggish digestion. Trikatu is famous for containing Piperine, a natural bio-enhancer. Method Of Preparation
- Mix all the ingredients in a mortar (Kharal) and fill them into a fire-resistant glass bottle (Aatshi Shishi).
- Fill the bottle halfway with 24 Tole of Semal decoction (Kwath).
- Place it in a sand bath (Baluka Yantra) and apply mild heat.
- When the Semal decoction has nearly evaporated, add 24 Tole of warm Triphala decoction. Once that dries, add 24 Tole of warm Giloy juice.
- When the liquid dries and the sulfur has nearly burnt off (forming a sedimented medicine at the bottom), stop the heat.
- Heating usually needs to be maintained for about 1 day. Once it cools naturally (Swang Sheetal), remove it and grind it in a mortar with Trikatu decoction and ginger juice for 12 hours each.
- Form into 1-Ratti (approx. 125mg) pills.
Note: Preparing the Sindura by grinding the three types of juices with the dry medicine in a mortar and drying it before heating in the bottle results in a medicine with superior qualities.
Uses (Upayog)
This Lohasindura treats Pandu (Anemia) associated with dryness or tissue depletion (Dhatu-kshaya). Pandu can be caused by various fevers, intestinal worms, Rheumatoid arthritis (Amavata), Diabetes (Madhumeha), Syphilis, chronic fever, or weakness in mothers after childbirth. It also addresses anemia caused by excessive sexual activity, masturbation, fasting, mental anxiety, lack of nutritious food, tobacco addiction, or lead poisoning.
Clinical Use
- For muscle wasting: Mix with Abhrak Bhasma and take with Chyawanprash or Amla Murabba to relieve dryness, Pitta aggravation, and constipation.
- For weakness from excessive childbirth/breastfeeding: Take with Praval Pishti and Amrita Satva.
- For weakness from early-life celibacy breakage or excess sexual activity: Use with Chyawanprash, Amritapash, or Shatavaryadi Churna.
Dosage
Take 1 pill, twice a day, with Chyawanprash or an appropriate carrier (Anupana) suited to the specific disease.
Contraindications
- It may not be effective if the anemia is caused by severe toxic conditions (Visha-prakopa), such as Tuberculosis (Rajyakshma), Albuminuria (Lasikameh), Syphilis, or Lead poisoning.
- It does not cure anemia during high acute fever, though it may provide some strength.
- It is not effective for Tridoshaj Pandu (Progressive Pernicious Anemia) involving hemorrhaging or heart-fatty changes.
- It is not used for anemia arising from the lymphatic system or in cases of “Halimak” (a severe form of jaundice/anemia) where the patient appears stout rather than dry.
