Shwasari Taila – Medicinal Properties, Ingredients, Indications, Dosage & More

Introduction

Shwasari Taila is a classical Ayurvedic medicated oil prepared by processing multiple herbal juices with castor oil and coconut derivatives along with a group of deepana–pachana and shwasahara herbs. The formulation is traditionally indicated in respiratory disorders, digestive obstruction, inflammatory conditions, and systemic fever. The combination of penetrating herbal juices, castor oil as the base, and pungent bio-enhancing ingredients produces a formulation that supports respiratory function, reduces obstruction, and promotes downward movement of Vata. It is administered both internally and externally according to classical guidance.

Method Of Preparation

All liquid ingredients are combined in a suitable vessel. The kalka dravyas are powdered separately and triturated to form a smooth paste. Castor oil is added to the liquid mixture followed by incorporation of the prepared herbal paste. The entire combination is heated on mild fire following classical Sneha Paka procedure. Continuous stirring is maintained to ensure uniform processing and to prevent adhesion of the paste to the vessel. Heating is continued until the aqueous component evaporates completely and the oil remains in its original quantity. Proper completion is indicated by absence of moisture, characteristic aroma, and formation of a soft non-sticky residue of kalka. The oil is filtered while warm and stored in airtight glass containers.

  • Internal administration in prescribed dose under medical supervision.
  • External application in the form of Abhyanga (therapeutic oil massage).
