Aarnyatulsimooladi Kashaya – Indications, Preparation & Dosages

Introduction

Aarnyatulsimooladi Kashaya is a classical Ayurvedic decoction indicated for the management of Sheetika Jvara (fever associated with chills) and Vishama Jvara (intermittent or irregular fever). These fevers are characterized by recurring episodes of elevated body temperature, chills, body ache, fatigue, loss of appetite, and digestive disturbances. According to Ayurveda, such conditions arise due to the aggravation of Vata and Kapha Doshas, often accompanied by Mandagni (weak digestive fire) and the accumulation of Ama (metabolic toxins). Unless digestion is restored and Ama is eliminated, fever tends to recur and recovery becomes prolonged. Aarnyatulsimooladi Kashaya is a simple yet potent formulation comprising only three medicinal herbs. आरण्यतुलसीमूल विष्णुक्रान्ति महौषधैः।

A decoction prepared from the root of Aaranya Tulasi (Ocimum gratissimum), Vishnukranti (Evolvulus alsinoides), and Shunthi quickly alleviates Sheetika Jvara (fever associated with chills) and Vishama Jvara (intermittent fever).

Ingredients

The following ingredients are taken in equal proportions:

  • Aaranya Tulasi Moola (Ocimum gratissimum) – Root of Wild Holy Basil
  • Vishnukranti (Evolvulus alsinoides) – Dwarf Morning Glory
  • Shunthi (Zingiber officinale) – Dry Ginger
  • Water – Sixteen times the total quantity of the herbal mixture

Method of Preparation

The ingredients are cleaned and coarsely powdered for decoction preparation.

Preparation Procedure

  • Take all ingredients in equal quantities.
  • Add sixteen parts water.
  • Boil over mild heat.
  • Reduce the liquid to one-eighth of its original volume.
  • Filter through a clean cloth.
  • Administer the decoction while lukewarm.

For example:

  • Total Herbal Mixture: 100 g
  • Water: 1600 ml
  • Reduce the Decoction to Approximately 200 ml
  • Filter Before Use

Freshly prepared Kashaya is preferred to ensure maximum therapeutic efficacy.

Dose

40 ml twice daily, or as directed by a qualified Ayurvedic physician.
