Araladi Kashaya – Indications, Preparation & Dosages

Introduction

This formulation prepared from Aralu (Ailanthus excelsa) , Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum), Musta (Cyperus rotundus) , Shunthi (Zingiber officinale) , Bilva (Aegle marmelos), and Dadima (Punica granatum) is said to alleviate various types of fever and effectively manage all forms of diarrhea.

Ingredients

The following ingredients are taken in equal proportions:

  • Aralu (Ailanthus excelsa)
  • Ativisha (Aconitum heterophyllum) – Indian Atees
  • Musta (Cyperus rotundus) – Nut Grass
  • Shunthi (Zingiber officinale) – Dry Ginger
  • Bilva (Aegle marmelos) immature fruit – Bael Fruit
  • Dadima Phala Tvak (Punica granatum) fruit rind – Pomegranate Peel
  • Water – sixteen times the total quantity of the herbal mixture

Textual Variant

Some manuscript versions mention:

  • Rasna (Pluchea lanceolata) – Rasna
  • Devadaru (Cedrus deodara) – Himalayan Cedar

in place of Bilva and Dadima.

Method of Preparation

All ingredients are cleaned and coarsely powdered (Yavakuta Churna). Water equal to sixteen times the weight of the herbal mixture is added. The mixture is boiled over mild heat and reduced to one-eighth of its original volume. After reduction, the decoction is filtered through a clean cloth and administered in a lukewarm state.

For example, if 48 g of total herbal coarse powder is used, approximately 768 ml of water is added and reduced to about 96 ml.

  • 40 ml twice daily, or as directed by a qualified Ayurvedic physician.
