Kanjunnyadi Tailam

Abstract

Kanjunnyadi Tailam is a classical herbal oil formulation which is indicated for hair related problems like splits, hair fall, graying, etc. It is also known as Kayyanyadi tailam. It is applied over the scalp like routinely hair oil as the head is the most significant vital body part. It nourishes and conditions hair, scalp. This article deals with Kanjunnyadi oil composition, benefits and dosage. 

Introduction

It is medicated oil preparation which contains seven ingredients and as the name suggests kanjunnyadi thailam its main ingredient is kanjuna (bhringraj- Eclipta alba). In this oil, herbs are induced in a medium of sesame oil along with herbal water decoction. This formulation contains oil soluble and water soluble herbal phyto- active principles of herbs.

Classical Indication

According to classics, Kanjunnyadi thailam is described in Sahasrayogam for vitiated vata and pitta dosha. It is mainly used in hair and scalp related issues.

Some of the classical indications are as follows-

  • Netra Roga (eye disorders)
  • Siroroga  (head/brain related disorders)
  • Dantaroga (dental disorders)
  • Palitya  (premature graying of hairs)

Ingredients

There are total seven ingredients for preparation of Kanjunnyadi tailam, which are given as following-

  • Kanjunni/ bhringraj (Eclipts alba)
  • Chittamritil/ guduchi (Tinospora cordifolia)
  • Nelli/ amalaki (Emblica officinalis)
  • Madhuka (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
  • Anjana (Berberis aristata)
  • Cow’s milk
  • Coconut oil

Benefits Of Ingredients

  • Bhringraj - This drug is known as the king of herbs for hair care. It is rich in alkaloids, flavonoids which boosts hair roots and makes scalp healthy. It helps to grow thick, black and lustrous hair.
  • Guduchi - It has anti-bacterial and inflammatory properties. It fights against different types of allergic reactions. It boosts immunity and removes toxins from the body.
  • Amalaki - It is a rich source of Vit. C, Carotens and acts as antioxidants which strengthens hair follicles from base.
  • Madhuk - It prevents various types of infections and protects hair from damage. It helps in killing bacteria, fungi and reduces inflammation. It is also very helpful in scalp psoriasis.
  • Anjana - It adds shine, color to hair and corrects premature graying of hairs. It is a rich source of iron so it helps in healthy hair growth.  It moistens frizzy hairs and improves its texture.
  • Cow milk - It provides nourishment to hair and makes them stronger. Milk is a rich source of vitamins and minerals so it prevents hair fall and manages scalp dryness.
  • Coconut oil - It moistens hair and reduces breakage. It protects hair from protein loss or any type of damage. It prevents hair from environmental effects like wind, dust or sunlight.

Method Of Preparation

The method of preparation of Kanjunnyadi thailam are given as following-

  • Collect all the drugs mentioned above and wash them properly.
  • Then make a paste of kalka dravya and prepare decoction of drugs.
  • Then mix paste and decoction of herbs properly and stir it continuously.
  • Then add coconut oil to the solution and mix it properly.
  • At last filter the solution properly and store in an airtight glass container.
  • Keep the container away from direct sunlight.

Properties

The various properties of Kanjunnyadi thailam are given as following-

  • It strengthens hair and promotes hair growth.
  • It has rejuvenating properties.
  • Have antibacterial, anti-fungal properties.
  • Reduces inflammation.
  • It has nourishing and moisturizing properties

Indications

The various indications for Kanjunnyadi tailam are given as following-

  • Headache
  • Blurred vision
  • Premature graying of hairs
  • Hair fall
  • Baldness
  • Strengthens teeth
  • Dandruff
  • Chronic rhinitis
  • Allergic rhinitis

Contraindications

No such contraindications are found.

Dosage / Usage

For external application (head massage) over the head region (scalp), applied like hair oil.
