Punarnavadyam Ghrita – Indications, Properties & Dosages
Introduction
Punarnavadyam Ghrita is a classical Ayurvedic medicated ghee formulation primarily indicated in conditions of Madyapana Hata Ojas (depletion of vitality due to excessive alcohol consumption). This formulation is designed to restore Ojas (vital essence), improve strength, and rejuvenate the body. It combines the nourishing and restorative effects of Kshira (milk) and Ghrita (ghee) with the detoxifying and rejuvenative action of Punarnava (Boerhavia diffusa — Spreading hogweed) and Yashtimadhu (Glycyrrhiza glabra — Licorice). This ghrita is particularly beneficial in individuals suffering from fatigue (weakness), digestive impairment, and tissue depletion caused by chronic alcohol intake. It acts as a Pushtikara (nourishing) and Rasayana (rejuvenative) formulation.
