What are Immunosuppressants?

Immunosuppressants are the drugs which reduce or prevent over activity of the immune system. The most of the immunosuppressants are nonselective, which do not target a particular part of the immune system, they act by damaging the immune cells and stop the production of new immune cells.

What is the Role of Immunosuppressants in Scleroderma?

Immunosuppressants reduce the immune response which helps to overcome the symptoms of scleroderma.

Some examples of Immunosuppressants used for scleroderma are Mycophenolatemofetil, cyclophosphamide, azathioprine, anti-thymocyte globulin, etc.

But there are various side effects of using Immunosuppressants.

It includes :-

  1. Increased risk of infection
  2. Diarrhea
  3. Loss of appetite
  4. Nausea and vomiting
  5. Hand trembling

Ashwagandha improves the quality and amount of sperm count. It acts as a Rasayana. It balances Kapha and Vata dosha.

2. Boswellia–Curcumin Capsules

These capsules are prepared by  combination of two potent herbs that are Shallaki  (Boswellia serrata) and Curcumin (Curcuma longa). Shallaki contains an inflammatory terpenoids, "boswellic" which makes this herb effective in the treatment of Scleroderma. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and antifungal properties which also are useful for Scleroderma. These capsules support the immune system and cardiovascular system. It also improves blood circulation in joints and supports joint functioning.

Dosage : 2 capsules two times a day with warm water after meals.

3. Gotukola Capsules

It helps to balance Vata and Pitta doshas in the body. These tablets help to treat the autoimmune disorder and also overcome the symptoms associated with scleroderma such as itching, inflammation, pain and redness. It also improves the liver functions and digestive system.

Dosage : 2 tablets two times a day with warm water after meals.

5. Gandhak Rasayan

These tablets are prepared by pure Gandhak which is purified sulphur. Gandhak Rasayan possesses anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral and antimicrobial properties. These tablets fight against the infections and improve immunity in patients of scleroderma.  It also improves the health of the skin and removes dead skin cells. Gandhak Rasayan balances the Vata, Pitta and Kaphadoshas in the body. It also acts as a blood purifier.

6. Sinhnaad Guggul

This formulation helps in pacifying mainly the vata dosha. Sinhnaad guggul is also known as Vatari guggulu. This formulation is mainly used in joint pains, swelling, stiffness, inflammation and arthritis. It is also helpful in managing skin problems and abdominal disorders as well. It has purgative action also, which helps in the detoxification of the body and helps in providing relief from toxins. This herbal remedy helps in relieving pain because of guggul.
