Strigadantak Ark
Introduction
Strigadantak Ark is a specialized Ayurvedic liquid formulation traditionally used for disorders affecting the female reproductive system, especially uterine dysfunctions and abnormal vaginal discharge. The name itself suggests a medicine intended to destroy or alleviate stri-gada—diseases of women. This formulation combines classical Ayurvedic preparations with selected therapeutic oils and tinctures to create a potent uterine cleanser, anti-inflammatory support, and urinary tract restorative. Traditionally, it has been prescribed in conditions such as Rakta Pradar (menorrhagia / excessive uterine bleeding), Shweta Pradar (leucorrhoea / white discharge), Neela Pradar (bluish discharge), uterine irritation, menstrual irregularities, painful menstruation, uterine-origin constipation, burning sensations, headache, restlessness, and associated weakness. It is also considered beneficial in urinary complaints such as dysuria, urinary retention, and yellow discoloration of urine. This formulation was initially designed for women suffering from complications associated with infectious reproductive disorders, and later gained recognition for broader gynecological use.
Ingredients
- Ashokarishta(Saraca asoca based classical fermented preparation) – 6 oz (~177 ml)
- Oil Copaiba (Copaifera officinalis resin oil) – 1½ dram (~5.5 ml)
- Sandalwood Oil (Santalum album) – 10 drops
- Tincture Cantharides (prepared from Lytta vesicatoria) – 15 drops
- Liquor Ferri (Iron preparation) – 4 dram (~14.8 ml)
- Arabic Gum / Gum Acacia (Acacia senegal) – 15 grains (~1 g)
- Aqua Camphor Concentrated (Cinnamomum camphora based camphor water) – 1½ dram (~5.5 ml)
- Distilled Water / Steam Water – 2 oz (~59 ml)
Additional Ashokarishta may be added to make the total volume 12 oz (~355 ml).
Method of Preparation
First, Arabic gum is dissolved thoroughly in distilled or steam water. This mixture is then filtered to obtain a smooth mucilage. The therapeutic oils—Copaiba oil and Sandalwood oil—are blended into this mucilage gradually to ensure proper emulsification.
Separately, Ashokarishta is taken as the primary liquid base, and the remaining ingredients such as Tincture Cantharides, Liquor Ferri, and concentrated camphor water are added carefully. Finally, both mixtures are combined and adjusted with additional Ashokarishta until the total volume reaches approximately 12 oz (355 ml).
The final preparation is stored in a clean amber bottle and shaken well before use.
