Trikatu Churna

Trikatu Churna is not a very complex one, it is just a mixture of three spices. Trikatu churna is a powdered formulation and it sits in two categories that are herbs and dietary herbs. Consuming this Ayurvedic formulation escalates the heat production in the body and as a result increases the production of bile juices and bile salt secretion. Also, it is considered to be a fat burner, antiemetic, anti-inflammatory, expectorant. It is also known as Katutraya churna, Kadutraya churna, and three peppers.

Ingredients

  • Black Pepper (Piper nigrum)
  • Long pepper (Piper longum)
  • Dried ginger (Zingiber officinalis)

Method of Preparation

Clean all the ingredients thoroughly and grind each one separately into a fine powder. Then, combine all the powders and mix them well. Finally, sift the mixture using a muslin cloth to ensure a uniform, fine consistency.

Medicinal Properties

Trikatu Churna possesses useful properties like anti-allergic, carminative, anti – flatulent, natural antihistamine, anti-viral, expectorant, carminative, appetizer & digestive stimulant, hypo-glycemic, antiemetic, anti-inflammatory that bring healing effects to the body system.

This Ayurvedic medicine is useful in improving digestive fire and promotes the proper breakdown of food. It stimulates the secretion of digestive juices which increase appetite and also regulate the formation of hydrochloric acid which further help to prevent gaseous distension. It is beneficial to patients suffering from diarrhea, cramps, bloating or gas associated with mucus in stool or having sticky stools. Trikatu churna is a good choice to be prescribed in IBS.

It also acts as a natural antihistamine, preventing any infection and inflammation of the gastric mucosa. It provides protection against allergic reactions. It enhances body warmth and decreases body pains, heaviness, fatigue, restlessness etc.

It has effective results in respiratory problems due to bronchodilator properties. It has the ability to lessen the production of phlegm. It is also helpful in managing asthma, by strengthening the respiratory organs making it fight against repeated attacks of asthma.

Dosage

½ gram to 2 grams after meals with lukewarm water or honey.

In case Trikatu has to be consumed by people suffering from gastritis, then it is taken with Shankha Bhasma.

  • Over dosage might cause heartburn and acidity.
  • It increases the amount of heat in the body.
  • Mouth ulcers.
  • Burning taste.
  • It can be taken in pregnancy and lactation under medical supervision.
  • Redness in the eyes.
  • Bleeding disorders.
