Vataraktaantaka Ras – Ingredients, Preparation, Ayurvedic Properties, Indications & Dosages

Reference – Bhaishajya Ratnavali, Vataraktarogadhikar Chapter 27 Verse 42-46

Introduction

Vatarakta (Gout and allied disorders), resulting from the simultaneous aggravation of Vata Dosha and vitiation of Rakta Dhatu (blood tissue), leads to intense joint pain, inflammation, stiffness, redness, and restricted movement. This condition, often correlated with gout and rheumatoid arthritis in modern medicine, disrupts metabolism and causes the accumulation of toxic metabolites (Ama) within joints. Ayurveda provides a comprehensive and natural approach for its management through detoxification, rejuvenation, and dosha balance. Vataraktantak Ras, a classical herbo-mineral formulation, is renowned for its potent Vata-Rakta Shamak (pacifying Vata and Rakta), Shothahara (anti-inflammatory), and Rasayana (rejuvenating) properties. It effectively neutralizes metabolic toxins, purifies blood, alleviates pain and swelling, and restores joint mobility. The formulation offers remarkable results in chronic and complicated cases of Vatarakta (Gout), Amavata (Rheumatoid arthritis), and other Vata-dominant disorders, promoting long-term musculoskeletal strength and systemic balance. Let’s explore it in detail!

Introduction

Vataraktantak Ras is a classical Ayurvedic herbo-mineral formulation specifically designed for the management of Vatarakta (Gout and allied disorders). The name itself reflects its therapeutic intent — “Vata” signifies the aggravated Vata Dosha responsible for pain, stiffness, and neurological disturbances in joints, while “Rakta” denotes the vitiated blood causing inflammation, redness, and burning sensations. “Antak” means the destroyer, indicating its potent action in eradicating the combined vitiation of Vata and Rakta. This formulation harmonizes the deranged Vata and Rakta Doshas, alleviates pain, swelling, and stiffness, and purifies the blood to prevent further deposition of uric acid crystals. This formulation enriched with powerful Rasa Dravyas (herbo-mineral ingredients) and Shuddha Guggulu, acts as an excellent anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and rejuvenative remedy. It is renowned in classical texts, Vataraktantak Ras not only provides symptomatic relief in Vatarakta (Gout) but also restores normal metabolic and vascular functions, offering a comprehensive and sustainable solution to chronic inflammatory joint disorders.
