Giloy Ark
Introduction
Giloy Ark is a classical Ayurvedic distillate prepared from fresh stems of Giloy (Tinospora cordifolia), commonly known in English as Heart-leaved Moonseed or Guduchi. This herb is one of the most revered Rasayana (rejuvenative) drugs in Ayurveda, widely known for its immunomodulatory, antipyretic, and detoxifying properties. The Ark form is a light, aqueous distillation that captures the subtle active components of the herb, making it easy to digest and rapidly absorbable. Ingredients
- Giloy (Guduchi / Heart-leaved Moonseed) (Tinospora cordifolia) – 2.5 seer (~2.3 kg, fresh stem)
- Water – 20 seer (~18.5–19 liters)
Method of Preparation
Fresh green stems of Giloy are cut into small pieces and coarsely crushed using a mortar (Imam Dasta or wooden pestle). This helps in releasing the internal active constituents. The crushed material is soaked overnight in water to initiate extraction and soften the fibers. On the following morning, the soaked mixture is transferred into a Nadika Yantra (distillation apparatus / Bhapka). The mixture is subjected to controlled heating, and approximately 20 bottles of Ark are collected through distillation. The obtained distillate is filtered and stored in clean, airtight bottles for therapeutic use.
