Vijay Parpati – Indications, Properties & Dosage

Reference: Rasa Tantra Saar & Siddha Prayoga Sangraha – Part 1 / Parpati Prakaran

Abstract

Digestive ailments such as Grahani (malabsorption syndrome), chronic diarrhea (Atisara), abdominal discomfort, and debility are commonly encountered in modern times due to irregular food habits, poor digestion, and lowered digestive strength (Mandagni). Ayurveda addresses these conditions with time-tested herbo-mineral remedies that enhance Agni (digestive fire) and strengthen intestinal integrity. It is processed through the Parpati Kalpana technique to form thin, flake-like medicine that offers rapid absorption and deep systemic action. Vijaya Parpati works as a Grahi (absorbent), Deepana-Pachana (digestive and carminative), and Tridoshahara (balancer of all three doshas), helping to normalize gut function and restore vitality in patients suffering from chronic digestive conditions.

Introduction

Vijay Parpati is a unique, mercurial preparation categorized under Parpati Kalpana – a pharmaceutical form in which Kajjali (black sulphide of mercury) is melted and then flattened into thin flakes. This increases its stability, absorption, and therapeutic power. Vijay Parpati contains Tamra Bhasma (calcined copper), Shuddha Vatsanabha (purified aconite), Parada (purified mercury), and Gandhaka (purified sulphur), all processed with utmost care and expertise. This classical combination offers multiple therapeutic benefits, including Rasayana (rejuvenation), Agni Deepana (stimulating digestion), and Srotoshodhana (channel cleansing). It also works effectively in managing vata-predominant abdominal and nervous disorders.

Classical Indications

Grahani (Malabsorption syndrome)

Ingredients

  • Shuddha Parada (Purified Mercury) – 4 parts
  • Shuddha Gandhaka (Purified Sulphur) – 4 parts
  • Tamra Bhasma (Calx of Copper) – 4 parts
  • Shuddha Vatsanabha (Purified Aconitum ferox) – 1 part

Method of Preparation

First, prepare Kajjali by triturating Shuddha Parada (purified mercury) and Shuddha Gandhaka (purified sulphur) in equal quantities until a smooth, black, lusterless paste is formed. To this, Kajjali, add Tamra Bhasma (calcined copper) and Shuddha Vatsanabha (purified Aconitum ferox) and grind further. Then melt this mixture in an iron pan or ladle (loha ki kadaahi) smeared with ghee over mild heat. Once it becomes liquified, pour the molten mixture over the inner surface of a banana leaf placed on a smooth surface covered with cow dung to form thin flakes. Allow it to cool. This flaked product is known as Vijay Parpati. It is dark in color and has a metallic luster.

Dosage

  • ½ to 1 Ratti (approx. 62.5–125 mg)
  • To be taken once or twice a day, depending on the severity of the condition and strength of the patient.

Mode of Action (Pharmacodynamics)

Vijay Parpati improves intestinal tone and enhances the Grahani dhatu (assimilative tissue of the small intestine), making it highly effective in chronic diarrhea and malabsorption.

It acts on the Majja dhatu (nervous tissue), which makes it beneficial in neurological and psychosomatic disorders.

Its potent detoxifying property eliminates deep-seated toxins (Ama) and balances Samana Vata and Pachaka Pitta, restoring gut and systemic balance.

It regulates blood pressure, improves the rhythm of heartbeats, and removes vitiated doshas from the mutravaha srotas (urinary system).

Indications

  • High BP (Uccha Raktachap): Helps regulate pressure and cardiac rhythm
  • Atisara (Diarrhea): Controls chronic and Ama-dominant diarrhea.
  • Behoshi (Syncope): Revives consciousness in psychosomatic conditions
  • Grahani (IBS): Enhances digestion and stool quality
  • Shula (Colic): Relieves severe abdominal pain due to vata disorders
  • Pakshaghat / Vata Vyadhi: Useful in Vata-related neuromuscular diseases

Precautions

  • Should not be used during pregnancy or in cases of extreme debility unless under strict medical supervision.
  • Overdose may cause toxicity – always administer under the guidance of a qualified Ayurvedic physician.
  • If symptoms like vomiting or dizziness occur, immediately stop use and administer ghee or antidotes as prescribed.

Conclusion

Vijay Parpati is a remarkable example of classical Rasashastra’s therapeutic brilliance. Its ability to address deep-seated digestive, neurological, and systemic disorders makes it an indispensable formulation in chronic conditions. The formulation is particularly successful in conditions like Grahani (malabsorption), Atisara (diarrhea), Shula (abdominal colic), and Uccha Raktachap (high blood pressure), where conventional therapies may fail or offer temporary relief. With proper Anupaan (adjuvant), dietary care, and medical supervision, Vijay Parpati offers long-term, sustainable healing. Its Rasayana properties, Tridosha balancing action, and Parpati Kalpana form make it one of Ayurveda’s most versatile and reliable remedies for both digestive and systemic disorders.
